UCLA: Pat Cowen's College Career Likely Over

Pat Cowan was interviewed earlier today at the Rose Bowl during the spring game. BruinReportOnline.com did video interviews of both Cowan and Ben Olson. In the video, Cowan confirmed what I reported two days ago: Cowan will have season-ending reconstructive knee surgery.

Cowan’s video broke my heart. And that’s the worst part: Cowan is all heart.

To see a guy who has undeniably been a fantastic leader and a hero end his Bruin career on this note sucks. Cowan has been an incredibly composed player. For the first time that I can remember, he could barely stomach the questions today, looking down at the ground the whole time.

Now, here is my question: where is the jackass that came up with the rule barring Cowan from coming back? I’d like to have a word/foot-up-his-ass with him.

According to Dohn, this is exactly why Cowan would be barred from returning:

The criteria for gaining a sixth year is missing two seasons beyond a player’s control. There was no medical issue when [Cowan] red-shirted as a freshman.

I got an idea. Make the rule say that the SECOND missed season must beyond the player’s control. By making it two years, you’re requiring that Cowan be a friggin’ clairvoyant. Yes, Cowan has led the team to victory over USC, but that doesn’t mean he can predict the future.

The USC factor makes this even harder to take. St. Patrick valiantly helped lead our team against USC a little more than a year ago. Not only was it the brightest moment of his career, but it has been one of the few bright moments of this program this decade.

If Cowan doesn’t get a sixth year, his last moments as a Bruin player will be of him limping off of the field while losing to USC at the Coliseum.

Is anyone else outraged at this rule?

Does it make sense and I’m just not seeing it? I’m this close to starting a petition, but petitions are for dorks and I really want to make sure others think this rule is as blatantly idiotic as I do before I take that plunge.

Holla back. Seriously, please let me know what y’all think. 3,000 people visited this damn site yesterday and only four of you said something.
