Zack McCray Commits to Virginia Tech
The June 6 camp was expected to be rather uneventful especially since the SATโs were planned for that Saturday.
However, the Tech coaching staff received an immense surprise when Zack McCray strolled onto the practice field, decked head to toe in Virginia Tech apparel.
A few moments later, Zack was welcomed into the Virginia Tech family.
Back in March, most Virginia Tech fans were beginng to wonder whether or not the cousin of 2009 signee Logan Thomas would ever come to Blacksburg.ย Even Zack admitted that he wanted to visit a few more schools before committing.
โEvery time I tried to schedule a trip to Alabama or LSU, something would always come up, and I wouldnโt be able to make the trip for some reason or anotherโ said the four star recruit.
McCray would go one to visit a couple of schools that were close to Lynchburg but none of them measured up to the way he felt at Virginia Tech.
โNorth Carolina is really deep at the position Iโm trying to play, so that was the most logical reason to choose Tech.โ
With Nekos Brown graduating after this year and Worilds graduating in 2010, McCray has a chance at early playing time.ย Although, he will have to battle with the four defensive ends the Hokies are bringing in this summer.
So now that his recruitment has ended, I guess most Hokie fans want to know, what type of player is Zack McCray?
โIโm very physical, especially on defense.โ He said. โIโm very aggressive and have pretty good speed.ย My biggest thing I want to improve is my overall strength. Iโm working on my bull rush. I just want to be more complete as a defensive end and not just a pass rusher.โ
McCray is rated as the 95th best player in the nation for the 2010 class and is ranked as the ninth-best defensive end as well on Rivals.com.ย Zack is also a member of the ESPN 150 and is a four-star on Scout.com
