“He is a player I would pay to watch...”

These were the words spoken by the Barcelona playmaker Lionel Messi before the Champions League final in Rome. While speaking to the press, Messi praised his rival Ronaldo; but following the public’s opinion, there are uncertainties regarding his sincerity behind his statement.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo—not really hot rivals…

Over the years, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have been regarded as big competitors—and this is undeniable. Ronaldo fans started considering Messi as a “jealous player” when he declared that Aguero deserved the Golden Ball award more than the Portuguese winger did, last year. Obviously, this didn’t really please the young Argentine, as it was clear that he had been highly misunderstood.

Despite the hatred that was burning among Ronaldo’s supporters, critics began to reduce after the Barcelona forward decided to say what they wanted to hear, a short time before May 27. Indeed, his strong statement might have chocked everyone; nevertheless, it’s easy to think that if he said it, then he meant it.

The time has come—Will he do it?

In fact, it didn’t take too long for Messi to be put to the test. Real Madrid’s offer to Manchester United for the Fifa Player of the Year is now bringing Messi’s statement closer to reality. Now, the question is “Will Messi stick to his words?”

We aren’t sure about that…
