Rory McIlroy has gotten off to a red-hot start to the 2014 season, but he is still looking for his first tournament win.

The 24-year-old star has finished in 11th place or better in each of his three match-play events. This is a vast improvement from last season's disaster where he could not win a single event and only totaled five top-10 finishes.

However, the former No. 1 player should have been disappointed with his recent second-place result at the Honda Classic. McIlroy led after each of the first three days, but shot four strokes over par on Sunday to ensure a playoff, which he lost to Russell Henley.

Still, the young player was able to look at the positives after the week, telling Sky Sports:

It was disappointing I didn't get the win, but if I look at the week as a whole there were so many things I did positive. I was up there in the putting stats, drove the ball well again. I just didn't play my best golf down the stretch under pressure when I needed to and that was the bottom line.

I can take positives from the week and I've played a practice round here (at Doral) and I'm still playing well, hitting it well and I feel confident I can get myself back in a position to win this week.

This week, McIlroy will face an even tougher field at Doral in the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. With $1,530,000 on the line for the winner, you can be certain all the big names in the sport will be in attendance and ready to win.

Still, the Northern Irish player has as much momentum heading into this tournament as anyone in the field and he should be a top name to watch throughout the weekend.
