Subway Series Preview, Productions and Keys to the Series

The Mets and Yankees are coming off big series too with their rivals, for both New York teams it did not end well.

The Mets lost to the Phillies in 10 innings and a Raul Ibanez three run homer on Thursday, concluding the series with them losing two games to one.

For the Yankees it did not look much better, and by not much better I mean much worse. They went to Boston only to give the Red Sox a two game lead in the AL East as the Red Sox got the three game sweep.

Its not the end of the world, the Yankees are only two games behind the Red Sox and they lead the Wild Card by one game over the Blue Jays (who we all know are not going to win the Wild Card).

Same for the Mets, it is certainly not the end of the world. They are half a game behind the Cardinals in the Wild Card race and four games behind the Phillies for the NL East. And there is still plenty of baseball to be played.

But now these two teams meet each other in the new Yankee stadium in the Bronx, New York for the weekend and a three game series.

The Yankees have a 18-11 home record coming into the series against the Mets.

Both the Yankees and the Mets have records of 23-20 against right handed pitchers and both teams will be sanding two right handed pitchers and one lefty to start these three games.

Lets go game by game with the preview.

Game One: Friday

Mets: The Mets will send Livan Hernandez to the mound in game one of the series, he is 5-1 with a ERA of 3.88 coming in to this game. In his last start while ill he pitched seven shutout innings to beat the Nationals.

However, in his career he has had five starts against the Yankees and he is 0-3 with a ERA of 6.37, including his last start against the Yankees when he went six innings and gave up five runs.

Yankees: The Yankees are going to go with the young Joba Chamberlain who is 3-1 this season. Joba has only thrown one inning against the Mets in his career, and the Mets scored a run in that inning. Two of the outs Joba got in that innings were on strikeouts.

Production: Yankees win this one, their offense is to good against Livan

Key Player: Third Baseman Alex Rodriguez has had 16 AB's against Livan and has four doubles, three homers and ten RBI against him.

Game Two: Saturday

Mets: After John Maine was put on the DL last night the Mets will go with ether Fernando Nieve or Jonathan Niese. Nieve pitched a few innings last year in the bullpen for the Mets and he will probably be there pick for Saturday.

Niese pitched two games this season but no wins so far (fared well against the Pirates but struggled against the Braves).

Yankees: The Yankees will go with the lefty veteran Andy Pettitte, last season he was 1-1 against the Mets. Andy will be happy that Carlos Delgado is not going to play. Carlos has a .318 AVG with five home runs against Andy.

The Mets will have a hard time against Andy in this game.
