With the WWE tag team division nearing an overhaul, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler are among the smartest options to fill the growing need of new duos.

The tag team scene has to brace itself for its best squads splintering. The combination of in-ring ability and mic prowess that is "The Awesome One" and "The Show Off" is a way to keep the division flourishing.

F4WOnline, via WrestlingInc.com, reported that WWE is planning to pair Miz with Ziggler, writing, "the idea is to do a 'disgruntled angry men' tag team with the two."

Ziggler fans hoping for him to return to challenging for the world title won't be happy about this news, but this is a good use of talent and a story with promise.

This potential team comes at just the right time.

A Division in Need

In the next few months, the tag division is going to be unrecognizable. The Prime Time Players just split up, and there are a number of break-ups on the way.

WWE has teased at The Shield imploding for months. On the Feb. 10 Raw, Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins even mocked Dean Ambrose in public, questioning his credentials as United States champ.

The Shield may be facing each other at WrestleMania XXX, per F4WOnline, via WrestlingInc.com. Even if that scenario doesn't play out, the tension within the group is too much for it to just dissipate. The Shield members will eventually turn on each other.

There seem to be issues with The Real Americans as well.

WWE has recently played up the narrative that Jack Swagger is jealous of his partner Cesaro getting a shot at gold in the Elimination Chamber main event. Cesaro may be venturing out on his own soon.

When Christian defeated Swagger on Feb. 3, the camera zoomed in on Cesaro lowering his head in shame. It feels as if this is all foreshadowing for the eventual end of the team.

Goldust and Cody Rhodes are rumored to be done as well and headed for a match at WrestleMania, per F4WOnline, via WrestlingInc.com. Goldust continues to deny it, though.

Even if the Rhodes boys stay together, major change is coming. Aside from The Shield and The Real Americans' potential splits, The New Age Outlaws are likely to step back behind the cameras once again. They are just too old to be full-time Superstars for a sustained period of time.

That leaves the division in need of new talent.

WWE can only lean on The Wyatt Family so much. Los Matadores and 3MB are filler acts while Miz and Ziggler can help produce the kind of exciting tag team action fans have grown accustomed to over the past few months.

A Pair of Braggarts

The debate about Ziggler has been about his ability to be a headliner.

Some view him as the next Shawn Michaels; others see more of Billy Gunn in him. The less debatable issue is his ability in the ring. When he's not asked to do two-minute matches and brawl with props, he shines.

He and Alberto Del Rio spent much of 2013 putting on great matches where Ziggler merged his quickness, cockiness and amateur background into excellence.

Miz has been solid in the ring but more known for his gift of gab.

That makes him an intriguing partner for Ziggler, who is improving on the mic. Ziggler's rant in an interview on the WWE app showed off his range, going from somber to frenzied.

Putting these two together is going to equal quality segments and compelling feuds. Both guys are funny, fiery and quick-witted. It's going to be hard to ignore them should they join forces.

Swagger brought little to his pairing with Ziggler in terms of mic ability. R-Truth couldn't keep up with Miz when they were a tag team.

Ziggler and Miz, on the other hand, will be highly entertaining, a tussle of massive egos, a meeting of two of the most loudmouthed Superstars on the roster.

WWE reportedly already has a great starting point for them—frustration born from being underused.

Miz and Ziggler won't need writers to pen speeches about having their talent wasted, watching other guys get opportunities and only briefly tasting life as champs. That's been the story of their careers.

Being given more of the spotlight than they have recently is sure to motivate both men to deliver. Expect some of their best performances ever. There is much angst to channel and there are multiple openings in the tag team division for them to snatch up.

WWE can fill those openings with random pairings or it could go in the direction of Ziggler and Miz. Each man has a lot to prove and a lot to bring to the division.

As squads begin to crumble, placing a pair of braggarts together is just the right move.
