Tigers Roar To Sweep Rangers 8-2

Timothy CousinoApr 24, 2008

The Detroit Tigers did it again with their bats as they pummeled the Texas Rangers 8-2 to complete the sweep at Comerica Park Thursday.

A lead-off home run by Curtis Granderson got it started, as he was a welcome sight to all to be back in the lineup after being sidelined for 22 games to start the season.

A solo home run by Magglio Ordonez gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead after three innings.

Jeremy Bonderman struggled with his control again as he walked in the tying run. Bondo struck out and walked seven to show just how wishy-washy his performance was.

Tiger manager Jim Leyland came out to get him after 4 2/3 innings to turn the game over to reliever Zach Miner.

Miner put the fire out forย Detroit, as he had a very good appearance after two relatively poor ones. Miner earned his first win and didnโ€™t allow an earned run.

With the game tied at two and two runners on, Ordonezย delivered a three-run homer to give the Tigers a 5-2 lead.

The slumping Rangers would not score again as it was all Tigers after that. Magglio went 3-for-4 with four RBI and two home runs.

Brandon Inge and Ryan Raburn hit back-to-back solo home runs to bring the score to 7-2 Detroit. Edgar Renteria then added an RBI double to make the final score 8-2 Tigers.

The Tigers have now won seven of their last 10 games moving them up over Cleveland in the standings .The Tigers are now 10-13 on the season and coming on strong.

BOTTOM LINE:

The Tigers are looking unstoppable of late due to their incredible hitting.

They are looking more and more like the predicted powerhouse lineup we all thought they would be. As long as the pitching can get better, they should be taking over the top spot very quickly and trust me, they won't look back.

Other news: Ordonez reached the 1,000 RBI plateau in Wednesday's 19-6 rout over the Rangers. Way to go Mags!

The Tigers will begin a three-game set at Comerica Park Friday against a very good Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim team. I will be attendingย two out of the three games and will be looking for some inside info on the Tigers future outlook.

Stay tuned and go Tigers!
