Georgia WR Chris Conley Is Making a 'Star Wars' Tribute Video
UPDATE: Monday, July 7 at 10:35 a.m.
Conley's fan film,ย Retribution,ย is finished and on YouTube. Suffice it to say, it is awesome.
---End of Update---
Jocks can be nerds. Itโs not against the rules.ย
Take Georgia Bulldog Chris Conley, for example. The 6โ3โ, 206-pound wide receiver is a physical specimen who reeled in 45 passes and four touchdowns last year. Conley is a force on the field, but heโs alsoย into The Force. Yes,ย thatย Force.ย
Indeed, Conley is aย hugeย Star Warsย fan and is currentlyย in the process of shootingย a tribute film based on the series.
According toย Nate Scott of For The Win, the wide receiver was spottedย running around Athens, Georgia, on Sunday, filming battle sequencesย withย a pack of UGA students in Star Wars gear.
Was head coach Mark Richtย on the scene for the intergalactic reenactment? Silly questionโof course he was.
Richt and Conley were front and center, standing among Stormtroopers, Boba Fetts and sundry other characters for what may be some of the most ridiculous group photos youโll see.
Hereโs Mark Richt with a laser rifle. He is not having a bad time.ย
This is Mark Richt surrounded by Stormtroopers. The Imperials clearly didnโt appreciate the presence of a Rebel commander among their ranks.
Conleyโs tribute video is slated to premiere in April, and hopefully it will feature heavy use of the sound effect โphew phew.โย
Judging by a tweet sent out last November, Conley has been on the lookout for Sith Lords and purveyors of The Force for the past several months.
All of this should come as no surprise for Bulldogs insiders.ย
Conleyโs love for all things Star Wars is far from undocumented and has led to a number of ridiculous and/or amazing interviews with Georgia beat reporters.
In a preseason interview with reporter Radi Nabulsi, the wideout spoke on his ownership of a lightsaber, his reliance on The Force for catching footballs and his distaste for Jar Jar Binks.
Be on the lookout for Conleyโs Star Wars tribute this April. It might look a little low-budget, but the acting will likely outstrip Episodes I, II and III.
At the very least, weโll see gratuitous lightsaber dueling and a cameo from Richt. I just hope heโs wearing Jedi robes and driving a "podracer" resembling a brown El Camino.
Hurry up with the video, you scruffy nerfherders!ย
