The US Soccer Team played against Honduras in Soldier’s Field in Chicago Illinois in the presence of 55,647 people. This was a situation in which the team had to win in order to maintain its second point lead after an embarrassing loss to Costa Rica.

This was a do or die game after Costa Rica defeated Trindad and Tobago and El Savador defeated Mexico.

The first half of the game got off to a good start for Honduras with the first goal by Costly within five minutes of the game. Both teams were struggling to survive especially the United States until Landon Donovan took over the reins of the team and the game. He was instrumental in ensuring the discipline and consistency of the game.

Within the end of the first half, Donovan scored the equalizer for the United States secondary to a penalty kick.

The second half started with more emotion than the first half with both teams attempting to break the equalizer. Both teams forgot that they were playing for a classification by playing like if it was the World Cup. In one instance, Landon Donovan had a corner kick which he did.

The ball went to another player before reaching Bocanegra who did a second goal. This occurred within 68 minutes and now it was up to the United States to maintain the lead. The minutes appeared like if they were hours with players and fans agonizing over their own team.

The underwriter was afraid that the US Soccer Team would not classify but was proved wrong when the USA danced around the Honduran team in the game. There was no doubt that the USA was fighting for its life and that the saviors were Donovan and Bocanegra.

Finally, the match ended and the USA maintained its second place. This was necessary after it lost first place to Costa Rica following its humiliating defeat.
