Cleveland Cavaliers: The Forward That Will Give LeBron His First Ring
There are many NBA forwards that will become free agents during the summer of this year.
Players like David Lee, Shawn Marion, Carlos Boozer, Paul Millsap, and Rasheed Wallace all have possibilities of changing uniforms from now until next season.
Since the Cavaliers have five unrestricted free agents this summer, a ton of money from their total salary cap will drop, giving them a great opportunity to not only sign a big named power forward, but to also persuade LeBron James that his team can now be legit contenders for the championship trophy during the 09'-10' season.
So you must be thinking to yourself, who is the that forward that will give James his first ring, right? (that's probably why you clicked on the article in the first place).
His name, Charlie Villanueva.
Now before you react, just think about this.
The Milwaukee Bucks are currently in a dilemma, they have two starters that will turn into free agents this summer. As of right now, they have not decided yet on whether they will keep one and let the other one go.
In his fourth season in the league, forward Charlie Villanueva averaged career-highs in PPG (16.2), RPG (6.7), APG (1.8) most games started in a season (47), three-point percentage (.345) and free-throw percentage (.838).
Charlie V is a 6'11", 232 beast pound power forward, dropping 14 double-doubles on the season, including 12 with two blocks or more.
He has the ability to become one of the best power forwards in the league, as he is still only 24 years of age; but with a teammate like LeBron James, Villanueva has a rare opportunity to emerge as a superstar.
Let's dig into the real possibility of this actually becoming a reality.
The Cavaliers offer a trade to the Milwaukee Bucks offering forward Ben Wallace and his 14 million dollar contract, which enables him to become an unrestricted free agent during the 2010 offseason, a first-round draft pick, and possibly a second round draft pick, for Charvlie V.
The Bucks doing this trade gives them more advantages than not, especially for their future as a team.
They wouldn't have to pay the luxury tax.
They can resign point guard Ramon Sessions (another All-Star in the making).
They can cut Ben Wallace and use the 14 million dollars for future free agency.
They can draft Earl Clark and make him their power forward of the future.
What do YOU think?
Can trading for Charlie V really help James capture his first championship trophy?
I surely think so.
