Here Comes Fernando Torres, South Africa!

Diana AguilarJun 3, 2009

After a hard-fought season with Liverpool, it’s time for Fernando Torres to put the club behind him for just a moment and focus on achieving national glory with Spain this summer in South Africa.

As some of you know, from June 14 through June 28 the Confederations Cup tournament will take place in the World Cup-hosting country of South Africa.

Spain, the current European Champions—who will be vying for the trophy along with Brazil, Italy, Egypt, Iraq, New Zealand, the USA, and hosts South Africa—will be taking part in the tournament for the first time.

The Confederations Cup is contested by the host country, the World Cup winners, and the winners of each of the six FIFA confederation championships (CAF, CONMEBOL, UEFA, AFC, OFC, CONCACAF).

Spain has been placed in Group A alongside Iraq, New Zealand, and South Africa. Group B consists of Brazil, Italy, Egypt, and the USA. (I’m looking forward to the clash of Brazil and Italy! Personally, I’m routing for Brazil!

Hopefully the Spanish giants can taste national victory once more and be declared the winners of the Confederations Cup tournament at the end of this month.
