I must confess that my years as a high school athlete have left me with an obsession for sports, so much so, I became a sport agent, and to be a sports agent is no easy task. Of course I have been managing talent and egos for the last three years, but it’s a job I will never exchange. However, the sports agent is separate from the sports fan, and as the fan I must tell you I am a big lover of all things sports. Ask my mailman, he can tell you a few stories, about the stock pile of magazines that comes to my house. Trust me, when I say, I read them cover to cover.
I believe that the stress relief I get from watching sports is second to nothing else and maybe tied with my love for playing golf. You do not have to ask, if my golf game suffers during the NBA and NFL seasons. My golfing buddies will tell you that during the NBA season there are early tee times on Saturdays and Sundays and during the NFL season I play early or none at all.
With the NBA season getting ready to shut down for this season, hello golf game until NFL training camp. I am officially going through the NBA withdrawal already, as I have polished my clubs twice in one week and is able, to hold an entire conversation on the phone with my golf buddies, without the usual silence on the other line. Give them a few weeks and I will be back to fan-mode as usual, when the NFL gets off.
Not to mention the others sports I follow, there is international cricket, by the way I am mad at West Indies Cricket Captain, Chris Gayle – another blog post for that one. There is Rugby, Premier League Soccer – oh Manchester United, how I love thee. There is European Tour Golf and PGA Golf here state side. There is polo, boxing, Formula 1 racing – Girl Power to Sarah Fisher, Milka Duno and Danica Patrick.
What can I say, I am that all round sports fan, who has the occasional panic, when one season is finish, and I might have a week or two of no sporting events to watch or go to. I am a huge fan of twitter and have made friends with some sports buddies, who make up a little “network of rants and raves”. We give our two cents on the play calling, officiating, players, coaches and anything relevant during the games. We exchange sports articles, support each others’ blogs and have a great old time.
At the end of the day, sports help me to block life’s little distractions. It provides humor, suspense and intrigue, it creates friends, it makes those same friends your enemies in a good way and it helps me to bond with my children.
So as we wave goodbye to the NBA in a week, the NFL is right around the corner, PGA Tour is still in full swing, World Cup Qualifiers are in progress, and when all fails, there is my handicap index that needs to be shaved, think about it, my life is beautiful. Of course there is always my blog, where I express myself about what else – sports. Happy trails fellow sports fans, this sports fan is going to see what the postman brought in today.
