Eagles Do Not Need a #1 Receiver To Compete and Win a Super Bowl

Every off-season the Philly media and fans yell and scream that the Eagles need a true #1 receiver to be successful.  This year it was Anquan Boldin everyone clamored for, despite a price tag that would have likely included a 1, 3 and 5 (thank you Jerry Jones for setting the bar so high).  Again, the Eagles disappointed some fans and refused to trade for Boldin, or Edwards, or take in aging receivers like Holt or TJ.

Surprisingly, the eagles did draft a receiver in the 1st, but I think that was a lucky accident. Whether JM turns out to be a #1 is unclear but very doubtful for at least the 09 and 10 seasons.

Fans still scream that his team needs to go get a stud receiver, and, once again, they're not going to do it. It's just their typical we-know-better-than-everybody-else mentality at work. It really does seem as if they go out of their way not to make the popular move.

I guess facts don't count. Name one team that added a stud receiver and won a Super Bowl. Not the 08 Patriots with Randy Moss, not the 05 Eagles with TO (great SB effort but no touchdowns), not the 09 Cardinals with two stud receivers.  Not the 03 Panthers with Steve Smith.

Adding TO to Dallas resulted in how many playoff wins? 0.

How many Super Bowls did the studless receiving corp. win in New England? Oh, 3.

Fans always think they know better. Like Matt Millen who tried "stud" receiver after "stud" receiver. Lots of wins there.

Super Bowls are won by great defenses, like New York in 08, Baltimore in 00, and Tampa Bay in 02.  Sometime great quarterbacks are the difference, like Brady and Manning, who did have great receivers, but except for 06 against a pretender Chicago opponent, has a lousy playoff record of 7-8.  McNabb has a 9-6 playoff record.

Bottom line is that great receivers do not win Super Bowls so once again the eagles, without a true #1 still have a shot.
