Last year, TBS dropped the Atlanta Braves from its usually annual schedule. Thus ending a 20-some-odd year run for Braves TBS baseball.

As a Braves fan living in New Jersey, I was devastated. Sure, I understand ratings weren't so great, but believe it or not, Ted Turner, some people that don't live in the South do watch the Braves.

He has now left us Braves fans wondering, how can I watch my Braves games every day???

Sure, I can order the baseball package from my cable company, but why do I want to pay for all the other teams’ games as well?

In my eyes, Ted Turner is a loser and they should rename the stadium so that we don't have to be reminded of what a dick he was to the organization. He gave the Braves less money to work with, costing them talent and championships. Honestly, he doesn't even own the team anymore...so why do they have to play in HIS stadium?

Today, I watched the Braves-Dodgers game on TBS because it was the "best game of Sunday." So, anyway it has Mark Fein, an old Braves TBS commentator who they kept and then they paired him with a Mets commentator.

Does anyone else see something wrong with this picture? A Braves commentator paired up with a Mets commentator? Rival vs. rival in a Braves-Dodgers game I mean come on.

The least TBS could have done was to pair Fein with one of the Dodgers’ usual commentators. Nothing TBS does makes sense, but the reality is Braves baseball on TBS is over and after 20 years I have to say why would you break that up after such a long and great relationship???

’Till next time,

Go Braves

  1. Yes TBS should bring the Braves back. It cost me $240 on direct TV to see them play. I think its a shame, I dont know what the problem is with Ted Turner or with TBS. I've been a fan of the braves since the 80's and I think that TBS should bring the Braves back because I live in the New Orleans area and they have alot of Braves fans and a lot of them are pissed off because they cant get the Braves on TBS.

  2. I got hooked on the Bravos in '81 growing up in Norfolk, VA before I actually moved to Atlanta. TBS had plenty to do with me checking out colleges in Atlanta. My dad watched his beloved Orioles on WDCA and I watched my Braves on TBS.

With satellite and assorted baseball packages, virtually anyone can follow any team for the right price. So, no one team can possibly claim to be "America's Team". Ted Turner may not have been the best owner, but I am sure he hasn't been the worst. Having lived in Atlanta in 1991 and 1995, he gave this city a real taste of baseball fever- the likes it had never known. The signing of Pendleton, Belliard and Bream in the early 90's was incredible. The signing of Maddux, Grissom and McGriff in the mid 90's was incredible, too.

When the Braves hired back Bobby Cox and then hired Shuerholz to put Cox back on the field, they laid the foundation to a great era in this franchise's history. I don't know how much Turner had to with either one, but they happened under his watch. For that if nothing else, I am grateful for Ted Turner's place with the Braves.

  3. fight the machine. fuck ted turner

  4. First of all, I just want to set something straight as someone who was a Braves employee up until this season, the Braves have not been owned by Ted Turner for a very long time. Ownership was officially turned over to Time Warner when Turner Broadcasting merged with Time Warner and ever since 2001 when AOL and Time Warner merged, Ted Turner was no where close to the day to day operation of the Braves like he was in the '90's.
It is a common misconception that he still runs Turner Broadcasting or any of it's companies (including TBS). He does not. In fact, he stepped down from his position as Vice President of AOL Time Warner in 2006.

He in no way, shape or form, had anything to do with the Braves being sold to Liberty Media OR the Braves being removed from TBS. The TBS deal itself, was all the doing of Turner Broadcasting executives who would rather show reruns with slightly higher ratings than the Braves. They set up a small network in Atlanta called "Peachtree TV" so they could dump the rest of the Braves games they were contracted to show off of TBS.

Even though many like to make Ted Turner out to be the boogey-man, he is not. He is actually the best sports owner Atlanta has ever seen and one of the best things that ever happened to the city.

Just wanted to lay all of that info out there, because it should be known. With that said, I hate that the Braves aren't on TBS anymore too, but sadly there is really nothing we can do except stop watching Yes, Dear and the King of Quenns.

  5. Oh my GOD ! I can not belive it , no more BRAVES on TBS. What is this world coming to. I've been wacthing the BRAVES for 20 years on TBS. And now it has been taken away. Im very upset about this.
I will no longer wacth TBS. They just show a lot of reruns ! Im sure this is just another way to try and make more money , like they don't have enough ! But i will not pay for another thing for fricken TV.
Cable is costing me enough ! Im just about ready to say good bye to TV ! Remember when TV use to be free , you just had to buy A TV and pay for electricty, now they are making everyone go to Digital or no TV ! I wonder what they would do if everyone would cancel their cable. Anyways that is how I feel about all this . So Good Bye to TBS !
