It's no secret that Charger fans are very skeptical of Norv Turner and the San Diego coaching staff.

Since the departure of Marty Schottenheimer after a 14-2 season the Chargers have been struggling to find an identity. Many fans and players were not happy when Schottenheimer was let go. While Norv Turner has had two slow starts he has also had two very strong finishes.

After a 4-8 start last season Charger Fans wanted Norv Turner out immediately. Many people feel that while he is an excellent offensive coordinator, he is not cut out to be a head coach.

Ron Rivera is also on the hot seat. With the well documented struggles of the San Diego Defense in 08' Rivera has been put under heavy scrutiny. If the defense cannot respond in 09' the Chargers should be looking for a new defensive coordinator come February.

Offensive coordinator Clarence Shelmon is one of the few coaches who doesn't have to prove his worth. The offense has been great in San Diego for the past few seasons. Shelmon has done a great job developing Phillip Rivers and designing an offense that he can thrive in. However with the weapons the Chargers posses on that side of the ball it must make Shelmon's job much easier.

Special Teams has also been an area which the Chargers have excelled over the past few seasons. Steve Crosby has done a great job with the likes of Darren Sproles, Kassim Osgood, and Mike Scifers. While the defense struggled last season the special teams unit was a great equalizer for the Chargers.

After the last two seasons you have to wonder how much confidence the Chargers have in Norv Turner to take them to the next level. While Norv Turner is a very even tempered coach i think he needs to light a fire under the Chargers. If Norv Turner wants to earn the confidence of his players he needs to show some passion.

Ron Rivera cannot afford for the defense to play like it did last season if he wants to keep his job. With the return of some key players things should run smoother on that side of the ball.

It seems to be a general consensus that the Chargers have the talent to win a championship. After the way they finished last season with five straight victories (including the playoffs) it is safe to say they bought Norv Turner one more year. However if the Chargers don't make a serious run this season i think we will see some new coaches for the Chargers in 2010.
