As the 2009 NFL season inches ever so close, players are beginning to participate in OTAs, and getting their bodies back into football shape.

Here in Tampa, there have been a lot of offseason changes since a disappointing end to the 2008 campaign, and I am here with Bucs linebacker Barrett Ruud to talk about the upcoming season.

  1. Barrett, following the disappointing end to last season, what does this team need to do to not let it linger, and to move on?
  2. Jim Bates has been hired as the new defensive coordinator. What do you think will be the easiest and toughest adjustments to make to his type of defense?
  3. Not only has Bates been hired, but Raheem Morris is now the head coach. He does not have the experience of most coaches, and is younger than some of the players on this team. Yet, players seem to love this guy. What does Raheem bring to this team that makes players willing to go through walls for him?
  4. When we look at the team roster, it just feels different. There is no Derrick Brooks. How do you as a linebacker try to bring to the table what Derrick did for so many years?
  5. Not only do you lose Derrick as a player, but he was the leader of this team. Some people see you as the new leader, how do you go about being the voice for everyone?
  6. There have been a lot of changes this offseason, and most people do not have high expectations for this team. What does this team need to do to exceed them, and what are your expectations?
  7. This year you will be playing the Patriots in London. What are your thoughts of the NFL trying to expand its market? Are you excited to be going over there? How do you feel about losing a home game in Tampa to play in London?
  8. The Bucs drafted Josh Freeman with their first round pick, and have been on record as saying he is the franchise quarterback. What does Josh bring to the table that could potentially lead the Bucs back to a Super Bowl?
  9. You have been in the league a few years now, what advice would you give to all rookies who are getting a taste of their dream?
  10. Alright Barrett final question. The type of style you play has made you a fan favorite in the Tampa area, what is it you love most about being a Buccaneer?
