By using the same format that I used to select the top five managers in the Premier League, I am creating another article, only this time selecting the top 10 midfielders in the top flight of English Football.
Here are my top 10, whether you agree or disagree be sure to leave your comments.
The list from 1-10 is not a rating. Which means Gerrard is not rated higher than Ronaldo, they are all in the Top 10.
1. Steven Gerrard
Stevie G, the captain of Liverpool, is arguably one of the most consistent and reliable players in the world.
2. Cristiano Ronaldo
Around 40 goals in the season, nothing needs to be said about Ronaldo. If he leaves Manchester, United will be missing the best player in the world.
3. Cesc Fabregas
Arsenal's most prized possession, Fabregas is one of the most prominent central midfielders in the world.
4. Frank Lampard
Due to resentment and criticism, Gareth Barry was chucked out of the Top 10 and his place goes to Frank Lampard. As Steve McClaren once said "What's Chelsea without Lampard."
5. Paul Scholes
The oldest player in the list but very deserving none the less. One of the greatest servants of Manchester United.
6. Michael Carrick
Carrick has the potential to pick out a man in space like no other. United know he was worth the 18.6 million price tag.
7. Michael Essien
Chelsea's Essien was consistent under Mourinho and he has saved Grant's blushes more than once. A true match winner and somebody the Blues truly depend on.
8. David Bentley
Ballack was here but he isn't anymore. David Bentley has been sensational this season. He's on the most wanted list of Liverpool, Chelsea and England's Fabio Capello.
9. Joe Cole
Joe Cole, this lads just special, arguably the most underrated player in the world. Personally, I rate him higher than any other player at Chelsea.
10. Mikel Arteta
Would there be a race for fourth place till April without Mikel Arteta? Maybe not. Everton's play maker, he is the driving force behind the Toffees and I am baffled at why Luis Aragones does not want him for Spain. The word underrated is all about this lad.
Choosing 10 of the best was hard, but I convinced myself to put these lads ahead of the likes of Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Alexander Hleb, Michael Ballack, Morten Gamst Pedersen, Aaron Lennon, Kevin Nolan, Tim Cahill, Elano, Joey Barton, Xabi Alonso and Fredrik Ljungberg.
What's your super 10?

Cannot believe Lampard is not in it. I would Choose him over at least 5 of those players..
In my book Lampard is better (at the moment) than Scholes, Carrick, Ballack, Barry, Arteta and possibly Essien..
I would him 5th, behind Ronaldo, Gerrard, Fabregas, Joe Cole.
Dont be fooled by the media hype. Lampard is hated by the whole country bar Chelsea fans.
Ronaldo is most certainly number one.

As much as I love Arteta, there's no way that I would rate him over Lampard. What he's done while with Chelsea has been extraordinary. Ditto what Salomon said about Frank.
To be honest, there's a lot of players that I would rate ahead of Nolan, Ljungberg, Downing or Lennon. Hargreaves, Giggs, Flamini, Nani, Anderson, Cahill, Krancjar, Elano (although he kind of faded away later on), Petrov, Babel, Mascherano, Xabi Alonso, Pienaar, Rosicky (when healthy) are just a few players that I would put ahead of the aforementioned (that's just what I can think of at the top of my head!). Heck, I really rate Palacios and Valencia from Wigan but I'm not about to get ahead of myself and say that they're better players.

That's what I'm saying..it's hard to choose a 10..Lamps not in there because it is about performances related to this season..
I forget to say 1-10 is not a rating..they are just 10 of the best..not like Gerrard is first and Arteta is last.

Great to see a healthy debate.

if you are going to talk about best midfielders you certainly have to stipulate the type of midfielder that they are and the certain qualities they possess. joe cole and ronaldo are no doubt excellent attacking midfielders two of the best but to count on them as ball winners would be a different thing all together. i would say that as all round midfielders who win the ball and can attack and distribute you would have to say from this perspective that xabi alonso and michael carrick are actually a better players than both ronaldo and cole. there are too many factors in play when you talk about the midfield this top ten is impossible, michael essien is probably the most all round talented midfielder out of the lot. i would rather have him in my team than any of the others. pity he is at chelsea and didnt go when mourinho left.
