Where Did All These Boston Hats Come From?

BRONX, NY - OCTOBER 8: Home plate umpire Tim McClelland inspects Boston Red Sox pitcher Mike Timlin's hat after being instructed to do so by manger Joe Torre of the New York Yankees during game 1 of the American League Championship Series on October 8, 2003 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York. Little warning this article will be bias due to my Yankee and Giant nature.  To the point: where have all these Boston hats and random fans come from?

See the Yankees have always had their strong fellowship around the nation, I mean every game you go to there will be a myriad of Yankee fans wearing the jerseys from Anaheim to Texas (Look for me in Fenway in a few years wearing mine).  Before the turn of the century or the bloody sock/tampon, how many Red Sox hats did anyone see outside of New England?

The answer: NONE

One 3-0 comeback and reverse of the curse, one of the all-time longest droughts for not winning a championship broken, everyone in the country falls in love with the "idiots".

Today, it is now trendy to pick up a random Boston hat, and the justification for that is, "Oh, my Grandpa is from Boston" or "My Mom's whole family lives in Boston".  It is all a ploy to excuse ones own bandwagoning.  I reside in Las Vegas and go to school in Reno (For all you accusers, I lived in New York for 10 years and I'm an Islander fan if you think the bandwagon idea applies to me), and can I tell you how many of these hats I see on a daily basis?

Also, now the Celtics are the hottest thing just short of Lebron James.  Can anyone name a Celtic before 2002 besides Paul Pierce or Antoine Walker that is "true fan"? Or can anyone name a Red Sox player before 2000 not named: Tim Wakefield, Jason Varitek, Pedro Martinez, Nomar Garciaparra, or even Derek Lowe? I believe the true followers of their team would have no problem.

It is just getting extremely annoying to walk down the streets to see so many fake Boston followers when I doubt they have even seen the city.  Also, a true Boston fan does not hate Manny Ramirez, you just cannot handle how the franchise could not function with him.  He is one of the best hitters of all time, and an absolute RBI machine.  He killed my yanks countless times, but I still love Manny cause he can flat out hit (Steroids don't really contribute to his countless gap shots with RISP). To your defense you now have Jason Bay to relieve your slumping Big Papi.

Back to the relevant issue of stop hopping on the current Ed Hardy while wearing your Rosemary beads to the club trend.  Answer these questions truthfully before you google all "true Boston" fans.
