My Personal Apology to Lyoto Machida

A couple weeks back, I made a pick.

That pick was that Rashad Evans would retain his Light Heavyweight belt and Lyoto Machida would be exposed as an overhyped sham comparable to Brandon Vera or Gabriel Gonzaga.

I was wrong.

When I did that, I also made a promise that if Machida were to win the belt in a convincing fashion, I would personally write an apology article exposing myself as an idiot for picking against him.

This is that article.

Ever since the Machida hype started, I was a doubter. I have never been a guy that "believes the hype." I refuse to hop onto bandwagons that I was not on in the beginning.

I absolutely hate hype. It is one of my biggest pet peeves.

This is the reason why I hate LeBron James. He, like Machida, is talked about in such a way that makes me gag. They are so hyped that it is like they are the second coming of God and will carry their respective sports to the promised land.

Obviously, both men are fantastic at their sports. But you won't see me rocking a LeBron James jersey and rooting for the Cavaliers next year. I live in South Jersey and will always be a 76ers fan.

I will remain off the Machida bandwagon for these reasons. I was not a believer at first and did not hop on, so I will not play the front runner and jump onto the speeding freight train that is Machida now. There are people out there that claim to be original bandwagoners, and I will quietly laugh and call those fans liars.

Another part of the deal I made was that if Machida won in a convincing fashion, I would quit writing MMA articles for this site. I am a man of my word. Fortunately, I did not claim how long I would quit.

In order for me to feel good about keeping my promise, I will be taking a month-long hiatus.

For all my fans, don't worry; I already have a huge article to make my comeback with. I've been working on it for a while now, and I hope it will earn me my first POTD.

I hope to recruit some of you guys for help with my article, as I don't see it as a one-man job.

You can believe my hype if you wish, but hop on the bandwagon now.
