Notes:
It appears that there's still no clear favorite in the competition between Sr Chris Yoder and So Michael Shumard for the starting spot at SG. Major props to the sophomore Shumard for giving a three-year letterman a run for his job.
Looks like highly-touted recruit Frank Avery won't be redshirting the '07 season—probably a smart move since Martellus could leave for the NFL Draft after this year.
Probably the biggest surprise on offense is that E.J. Shankle isn't listed at any WR position. Many program insiders have been singing the praises of the speedster from Lufkin, TX—and counting him among the targets that would improve the Ags' vertical passing game. Having seen Shankle myself in the spring, I can there's no reason he shouldn't be on the field. This brings up the question of just how deeply we should read into this depth chart.
Former 12th Man walk-on and scout-team LB Nick LaMantia is getting reps as second-team FB!?!?

Notes:
Looks like both good and bad news at DE. Despite landing on various award-watch lists, Chris Harrington hasn't been able to come back from surgery and reclaim his starting spot. While it's disappointing to hear that Harrington isn't 100 percent, it's damn good to see how much Cyril Obiozor has improved. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that DE is our most solid position.
Speaking of recovering from injury, it looks like Red Bryant is 100 percent, as he's easily claimed a starting spot at NT.
It's also good to see that Anthony Lewis and Matt Featherston (the future of Wrecking Crews past) have worked their way into the LB rotation. I can't wait to watch these guys grow this season.
Looks like big-name recruit Billy Chavis will be getting reps at strong safety. Some had predicted he would play TE or even DE.
Specialists
PLK | 7 | Matt Szymanski | 6-1 | 194 | So-1L | College Station, Texas (A&M Consolidated) |
| 27 | Richie Bean | 6-0 | 171 | Jr-1L | Marrero, La. (John Ehret) | |
P | 16 | JUSTIN BRANTLY | 6-4 | 245 | Jr-2L | Sealy, Texas (Sealy) |
| 7 | Matt Szymanski | 6-1 | 194 | So-1L | College Station, Texas (A&M Consolidated) | |
SNP | 47 | CORY DAVIS | 6-1 | 273 | Jr-1L | Conroe, Texas (Conroe) |
| 52 | COREY GIBAS | 5-11 | 209 | So-1L | Covina, Calif. (Charter Oaks) | |
PR | 27 | Jordan Peterson | 5-11 | 184 | So-1L | Lexington, Texas (Lexington) |
KR | 8 | KERRY FRANKS | 5-11 | 192 | Sr-3L | Orange, Texas (West Orange-Stark) |
| 6 | PIERRE BROWN | 6-2 | 193 | Jr-2L | Duncanville, Texas (Duncanville) |
Notes:
Looks like Szymanski has been tapped as the starter this season, but until he or Richie Bean stops missing PATs and starts making 40- and 50-yard FGs, this is a position that is unlikely to be set in stone.
While Peterson is the hands down favorite at PR, it's peculiar that he's the only one listed. Again, maybe this is something we shouldn't read too much into...but it could also be indicative of the coaching staff's indecision on whether or not to redshirt freshman RB Bradley Stephens.
