6 Fun and Relevant Facts About the Seattle Seahawks Heading into Week 8

This is a long week between games for the Seattle Seahawks. Long weeks like this one provide an opportunity to dig through websites like Pro Football Reference and pull out some random and fun facts from Seattle's history.

Here are six random, fun and mostly relevant facts about the Seahawks as they head into Week 8:

The Seahawks are the Best Monday Night Football Team Ever (at least by one measure)

The Seahawks have gone an amazing 19-8 when playing on Monday Night Football. That's the best winning percentage of any team in the NFL. Seattle has also won their last six Monday night games.

Seattle's record has been good enough that even if they lose both of their games on Mondays this year, they'd still have the league's best winning percentage on Monday Night Football.

Winning Percent on Monday Night Football
Rank Team W L Pct.
1 Seattle 19 8 0.704
2 Pittsburgh 40 24 0.625
3 Indy 21 13 0.618
4 San Francisco 38 25 0.603
5 Carolina 6 4 0.6
17 New Orleans 17 17 0.5
19 St. Louis 26 28 0.481
32 Arizona 6 16 0.273

The Worst Team in the NFL is... Whoever played the Seahawks the Week Before

An interesting trend has developed over the early parts of this season. Every team that has played the Seahawks has lost the following week.

Not only that, all but one of those teams have lost by at least 10 points. Even the Indianapolis Colts, the only team to beat Seattle, lost by 10 points the following week to the San Diego Chargers

The Week After Playing Seattle
Week Team Opponent Result Score Opp. Score
2 Panthers Bills Loss 23 24
3 49ers Colts Loss 7 27
4 Jaguars Colts Loss 3 37
5 Texans 49ers Loss 3 34
6 Colts Chargers Loss 9 19
7 Titans 49ers Loss 17 31
8 Cardinals Falcons ??? ??? ???

Seattle Seahawks: Road Warriors?

The popular narrative this year is that the Seahawks are good at home, but that they struggle on the road. Oddly, the Seahawks haven't lived up to their end of that particular storyline.

With a win this week in St. Louis, the Seahawks will move to 4-1 on the road this season and ensures that the Seahawks will finish no worse than .500 on the road in 2013.

On top of that, the Seahawks were 3-5 on the road a year ago. That means that the Seahawks are 6-6 on the road since drafting Russell Wilson. A win on Monday and they'll be an above .500 road team with Wilson at QB.

According to Pro Football Reference, there are only four teams with more road wins than the Seahawks since the start of the 2012 season.

Gamblers Love the Seahawks...

Or at least they should. The Seahawks have been surprisingly good against the spread over the last two seasons. Seattle has covered in 11 of their last 16 games overall, including eight of their last 11

Seattle has been even better on the road, where they have covered in four of their last five road games. For a team that isn't supposed to be good on the road, that is an interesting result.

It is clear that the Seahawks are a fairly safe bet from week to week.

The Seahawks Haven't Lost a Divisional Game In Over a Year

The last time Seattle lost a game inside the division was back in Week 7 of the 2012 season at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, the Seahawks are 5-0 against divisional foes.

If Seattle wins on Monday, they'll push that record to 6-0 with two victories against each NFC team. The Seahawks will also have beaten every team on the road during that stretch except the 49ers. Seattle won't get a chance to remedy that until December 8th.

The Path Gets Easier

The Seahawks have faced a fairly tough schedule so far this season, but the path gets much easier from here. In Seattle's final nine games, only two are currently .500 or better.

The combined winning percentage of Seattle's remaining opponents is .377. Mixed in there are three games against teams (Vikings, Buccaneers and Giants) that currently have just two combined wins.

Records For Seahawks Remaining Schedule
Week Opponent Wins Losses
8 St. Louis 3 4
9 Tampa Bay 0 7
10 Atlanta 2 4
11 Minnesota 1 5
13 New Orleans 5 1
14 San Francisco 5 2
15 NY Giants 1 6
16 Arizona 3 4
17 St. Louis 3 4
