Cheerleader Mikayla Clark Smashes Guinness Record for Consecutive Handsprings
Hope you like handsprings.
The high school cheerleader flipping over and over before you is Mikayla Clark, a junior at Westlake High School (Atlanta, Ga.).
More importantly, she is now the proud owner of the Guinness World Record for consecutive handsprings, going end over end to the tune of 44 marvelous flips.
Now the video above may state Clark came away with 46 handsprings, but it seems other sites are proclaiming the still-remarkable mark rests at 44.
It's seriously hard to keep up with a cheerleader when her handsprings turn into a massive blur, but my count was also 44.
According to the report, Clark's cheerleading coach, Ashley Clark, offered a very simple but profound, "I'm very proud of her."
The coach also divulged that the accomplishment that broke the previous record of 36 was Mikayla's goal since the beginning of the season. The 16-year old has been cheering since she was four.
People magazine reports the good people over at Guinness World Records should be sending over an official certificate to the beaming high school student at some point this week.
Things are getting serious in the world of rampant backflips. It was just last year that we saw another cheerleader, Miranda Ferguson, land 35 handsprings, only to see that broken shortly after.
Now we imagine there is one motivated cheerleader out there aiming at turning 45. We are going to need a much longer track if this keeps escalating.
