What do we know about Chris Williams? Nothing because he didn't hardly play a down last season for the Chicago Bears. Beyond that Williams is already being labeled a bust by Bear fans. Unfair or not the expectation of a first round draft pick is extremely high. Especially in a football crazed city like Chicago, when you consider the history of failure of first round picks.

Williams merely a year ago was going to be entrenched as the starter at left tackle for the next 10 to 12 years. With the signing of Orlando Pace this off-season, it now appears that Williams may be the starter at RT for the next three years.

So what exactly does this mean? Well it means that Williams will be battling a veteran for the starting RT position. A veteran that is no slouch, no matter what Cleveland Browns fans would have you believe.

Kevin Shaffer is an experienced pro with a solid veteran pedigree. It's doubtful Shaffer will roll over and allow Williams to simply take the starting job. That's not in his nature given he is a one time seventh round draftee who has fought his way to a solid pro career. This means that Williams will have to win the job and have to show he is capable of keeping the job.

Yes, Williams has the talent, and the tools to do what is expected of him. However the question remains will there be any lingering effects from his herniated disc in his back? The injury at one point seemed like season ending injury, and to an extent was. But not in the literal sense given Williams did come back and play.

The good news is Williams will be the only inexperienced player on the offensive line starting if he wins the job as is expected. His job will be simple, just don't fail to win the job.

Failure is not an option, in fact it would probably make everyone feel better if you went out and flat dominated playing at the right tackle spot. By proximity it would make Bears fans feel better about the possibility of Williams being a solid option in the future at LT.
