Attention Kobe: Chris Paul Will Win MVP!

Ron JohnsonApr 16, 2008

Funny thing happened on the way back to the Gateway City. I was listening to a couple of guys spouting off something about the Western Conference Playoffs. Then some 10- year-old kid pops up and says two words that just made me laugh all the way home. The kid said: "KOBE SUCKS!"

I couldn't agree more, kid. And apparently, you're not alone.

Even after dispatching valid evidence from another sports writer, people still said that this was nothing more than a jealousy thing. Yeah, that's right boys. I'm jealous of a man who cheated on his wife while nursing his bum leg in Colorado. I'm jealous of a man whose ego overshadows his great playing ability. Okay, I admit it.

I'm jealous of Kobe Bryant...NOT!!!!

If anything, I feel sorry for Kobe. He just got his team into the playoffs, only to come up short once again. He just led the Lakers to the Western Conference top spot only to get served by some young up and comer team.

And now, he just chalked up another vote for MVP only to lose it Chris Paul of the team that just might take them out, New Orleans.

Yes, times are real hard for Mr. Bryant, but they're only going to get worse. People may hate the fact that I trash this guy on a daily basis, but you can't say that he doesn't deserve some of it.

Maybe if people spent more time looking at both sides of the spectrum, they would see that I am not the only one who is falling out of love with Kobe Bryant.

Regardless, this isn't about him anymore. No matter what Kobe does, he may never win MVP. He will most likely be the greatest player to never win the MVP award but what will bite him in the ass even more is the fact that he will never—I repeat, never—be Michael Jordan let alone surpass him.

This probably is why Charles Barkley likes him so much. They both got served by MJ.

So in all honesty, Chris Paul not only deserves the MVP Award, he's earned it. In a league where everyone is riding the coattails of the Los Angeles Lakers, I am a firm believer of the underdogs—and Chris Paul is the ultimate underdog.

Instead of being in the spotlight taking shots that he could have passed to the more open man, Paul has been showing that you can not only make the clutch shots, you can let the supporting cast get things done as well.

So I'm making this short and sweet for one reason: Because you can't repeat what has already been said. Kobe Bryant will not win the MVP Award this year. He'll be lucky if they can even win the NBA Title with a heavily stacked Western Conference.

Someone might want to tell him that they got Denver in the first round, and they just might pull a Golden State on the Lakers of Angel City.Ā

Sorry, Kobe. Nothing Personal. Just the Bottom Line.Ā
