I've decided to do a feature article on each and every Diva and Knockout. The articles will be coming twice a week and will cover why they're good, etc.
This week's Spotlight is on the first Divas Champion Michelle McCool!
Why she's good:
Athleticism is the first word that comes to mind when I think of her. Michelle has a whole lot of that and has used it to her advantage over the years. No one can deny that this woman has worked very hard to not only improve her wrestling skills, but to prove she deserves to be a part of the roster.
It's really only been in the past year that she's been wrestling on a consistent basis, and the few years before hand of training in the developmental league truly paid off. She's got a very solid move set and uses various styles of wrestling to subdue her opponent, and is definitely one of the WWE's top Divas when it comes to wrestling.
Why she'd bad:
Michelle has two problems. The first is personality and charisma, or lack there of. Whether a face or now a heel, Michelle has struggled with getting the fans behind her. Even with being pushed as Smackdown's top face, she failed to get the kind of reactions a top face should.
Although the heel turn is much more fitting and natural, the personality switch still seems to be shut off. Some people come by it naturally, and for others it take a long time to work on. This is Michelle's Achilles heel, at least in the ring.
The second is the first one everyone talks about: her personal life. I will admit that I was one of those people who said she only got to be where she is in the past year because of her relationship with a top star. But I'm over it.
Unfortunately for her, a lot of fans are not, and the Internet has become her biggest problem outside of the ring. Because of this, I personally don't think she'll ever be able to overcome it, and get the fans to like her or hate her because of what she does in the ring. While timing was on Mickie James' side, it's not on McCools.
What she brings to the WWE:
Michelle brings to the WWE a natural athleticism and a real work ethic that comes with it. She's a sign that hard work and training can pay off, and brings to matches some real deal wrestling. While many fans will complain about some Divas who are pushed that can't wrestle at all, Michelle is definitely not on that list.
Stay tuned next week as I take a look at TNA's Velvet Sky and WWE's third generation star Natalya!
