Sonia Grover(SG), of the Star Tribune, posted Saturday that Portland Assistant Sean Penn will be the new leader of basketball operations, with Fred Hoiberg as the right hand man.
There has not been an official announcement, but it's on the official T'Wolves blog, so there might be some truth to it.
The Good News & Bad News
We will know who the new coach will be soon.
We will know what direction the GM wants to go with the franchise.
The only positive thing that we know about Tom Penn at the moment is that, if he becomes the new GM of the Timberwolves, we know that the guy recognizes talent. He was, believe it or not, the mastermind behind signing Rudy Fernandez, an accomplished up and comer on the Portland Trailblazers.
He speaks highly of talent acquisition, such as acquiring Lamarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy, and Rudy Fernandez; all these players have no more than four years experience.
I have not confirmed that he signed these talents himself, but being the Assistant for the Trailblazers means he had some insight on the matter.
Tom Penn has also had interviews dealing with making the most of the cap space. He has stated that when it comes to talent, he looks at them first, and worries about money later. It's obvious that he's the here and now type of guy, that he's about coming up rapidly, and not building a contender in 10 years.
After all, look at what the Trailblazers did in four years.
All in all, it still has not been announced, but I'm sure by the time it is announced, I'll have another article confirmation up minutes after.
