San Diego has been my hometown since I was two-years-old and sports has always been a part of my life.
The San Diego Chargers are my favorite football team and over the past few years, they have been an exciting team to be a part of. As most San Diego sports fans know, it is not always easy to be a San Diego sports fan. We have never won a major championship and we have gone through some tough seasons throughout the years.
I believe in sticking with your team no matter the circumstances they are going through. If your team is having a bad couple years then just stick around and support them the whole way through. When they eventually turn their game around, it makes it that much better.
The San Diego Chargers are a great example of this. Their only Super Bowl appearance was in the '94 season against the San Francisco 49ers. This was the year the Niners won their fifth Super Bowl and was a disappointing game for the Chargers. The only other playoff birth before '04 was in the '95 season where they won their division and then lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Wild Card game.
The '04 season is where the Chargers finally started to pick up. They made it to the AFC Championship game against the Patriots in the '07 season, but the Patriots were victorious.
The '08 season finished in a dramatic final game where the Chargers defeated the Broncos in a win-or-go-home, final game of the season. The Chargers would eventually be defeated by the Steelers.
Although the Chargers had that long losing period after '95, I am glad I still stuck with them through the tough times. Now that we have a much stronger team, I am able to appreciate our success even more as a loyal fan. Go Chargers!
