Arsenal Next Season: Suggestions for Changes

Vincent ChowApr 14, 2008

After three trophy-less seasons, many Arsenal supporters are beginning to think about the next season already.

Trust me, all fans would love trophies because it is the best feeling for supporters to be able to call their team the best team in the land, or in Europe. Ray Parlour, Jamie Redknapp and Paul Merson have indicated that they hope Arsenal can keep their core players, such as Fabregas, Hleb, Adebayor, Sagna, Clichy, Flamini etc.

These players have been Arsenal's best players this season, and European clubs are probably on high alert if they can sniff the slightest chance in capturing any one of them. Especially Flamini who is yet to sign a new deal.

The three pundits also suggested that the Gunners should invest in a couple, if not a few established players just to strengthen the squad and not replicate what happened this season.

The problem this season was the lack of strength in depth, people can always argue that Van Persie, Rosicky and Eduardo were out for a long time. However, Wenger had a choice to buy in January but didn't.

Also, from recent seasons, Van Persie and Rosicky have been so injury prone that Wenger really should think of investing in players who can cover them. Eduardo is unlikely to recover and be fully fit and hitting form until maybe January or February next year at most.

The likely departure of Lehmann and Gilberto also might force Wenger's hands a little.

Does Fabianski have what it takes to cover Almunia, and is Almunia really good enough to be No.1 at Arsenal??

There will be no more holding midfielders to cover Flamini (if he stays that is) apart from Alex Song (whoĀ Wenger sees as a centre back)Ā if Gilberto does leave.

The squad next season without investment should look something like this.

Almunia, Fabianski, Mannione (reserves goalkeeper), Hoyte, Sagna, Toure, Djourou, Senderos, Gallas, Clichy, Traore, Hleb, Eboue, Walcott, Flamini, Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Song, Rosicky, Vela (on loan at Osasuna), Van Persie, Adebayor, Eduardo, Bendtner.

Prove me wrong but I feel that this squad will not be strong enough especially with the departure of Gilberto. You can never bet on injuries and if it does hit Arsenal again next season, who is goingĀ to come in if Fabregas gets injured?

If clichy gets injured, would Traore be good enough? Or the likes of Hoyte, Djourou, Song, Vela etc?

I would like to ask fans who Arsenal can realistically think about buying in the summer. Obviously Kaka, Nesta, Messi will do, but honestly though. I feel Arsenal missed out in Ribery and Torres last season.

Lets hope Arsene can sign the players before Euro 2008 since after the tournament, everyone will get more expensive...

My personal preference would be a commanding defender who just loves to defend. I like Palermo's Barzagli who looks to be the new Nesta. He is still relatively unknown but played in Italy's World Cup winning team.

In terms of Goalkeeper, well, that's your job Arsene! I just can't believe Diarra left this season, such a shame... hope there can be another steal this summer...
