Chicago White Sox: Where Is The Offense?

KANSAS CITY, MO - MAY 05: Jermaine Dye #23 of the Chicago White Sox watches the replay on the scoreboard after hitting a two-run home run as catcher John Buck #14 looks on during the third inning against the Kansas City Royals on May 5, 2009 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. Greg Walker, White Sox hitting coach should be calling S.O.S. due to the recent offensive struggles of the Chicago White Sox.

The Sox are currently no higher than 12th place in the AL in offensive categories that matter in AVG (13th), RUNS (LAST), OBP (12th), SLG(12th), OPS (12th) and SB(12th).

The stolen bases categories is the least of my worries, because the White Sox have not had much production in stolen bases since, Scott "I can't run anymore" Podsednik. The Sox are a home run hitting team, no matter how young they get.

The reason that the Sox cannot score a run is because there are too many players that strikeout. There are three players (Thome, Dye, Fields) in the starting lineup that have over 30 strikeouts, which is averaging about one strikeout per game.

Another reason for the struggles at the plate lie in the fact that four of the nine opening day starters are hitting .235 and below. This is unacceptable and I do not know what will put the fire under their rear-ends to start hitting.

The frustration was showed of the White Sox struggles by Jermaine Dye getting ejected the other day for slamming his helmet and bat into the ground. Then Ozzie came out and tried to defend his player and got tossed as well.

There needs to be a change made and I do not know who to blame, but the Sox are 15-18, two games back of a packed division, coming off of losing two of three against the central division-worst Cleveland Indians. I know Cliff Lee pitched one of those games, but it was not excuse to not beat the Indians in Cleveland the other two games.

The White Sox need to start winning series' and this upcoming series in Toronto will be key for the White Sox to at least take a split, if not, win at least three of four. All we could hope for now is a Tampa Bay-repeat.
