Americans Abroad Wrap: Kljestan, Johannsson, Gyau and Arriola Find the Net
It was yet another bright weekend for Americans plying their trade abroad with goals for Sacha Kljestan, Aron Johannsson, Joe Gyau and Paul Arriola.
There was also an assist for Fabian Johnson and debuts with new clubs for Jozy Altidore and Alejandro Bedoya.
Plus, Terrence Boyd picked up an injury that may affect his status for the Americans' upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Read about all that and much, much more in this week's edition of the Americans Abroad Wrap.
The English Premier League Boys
1 of 5Brad Guzan and Aston Villa were the big winners in the English Premier League this weekend, winning a surprising 3-1 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates. Guzan received wide praise for his effort in Villa's win.
"@bguzan was huge in his opening game against Arsenal, Congrats on the W lad!

Jozy Altidore made his much-anticipated Sunderland debut Saturday, but unfortunately, the Black Cats fell to Fulham, 1-0. Altidore had a slow start to the match before working his way into the game but was unable to put any of his four shots past Fulham goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg.
Geoff Cameron took his usual place in Stoke City's lineup at right-back Saturday, but Stoke lost 1-0 to Liverpool. Maurice Edu and Brek Shea did not make the 18 for Stoke.
Tim Howard and Everton tied Norwich 2-2 in Roberto Martinez's debut as Everton manager.
Ze Germans
2 of 5Fabian Johnson and Hoffenheim beat Hamburg 5-1 on Saturday. Johnson started, played the full 90 minutes and assisted on Hoffenheim's opening goal.
Timmy Chandler and John Anthony Brooks faced off against one another on Sunday. Both started the game on the bench with Chandler coming on in the 58th minute and Brooks in the 83rd minute. The game finished 2-2.
Jermaine Jones and Schalke lost 4-0 to Wolfsburg with Jones going the distance and picking up his obligatory yellow card.
Bobby Wood and Alfredo Morales faced off against one another in Bundesliga 2 action. Morales started for Ingolstadt while Wood was a 68th-minute substitute for 1860 Munich, which won, 1-0.
Joe Gyau scored the opener for Hoffenheim II in Regionalliga action, but it was in vain, as they lost 4-2 to Homburg.
Steve Cherundolo is still recovering from injury.
Michael Parkhurst did not make the 18 for Augsburg in their 1-0 loss to Werder Bremen.
In the English Championship
3 of 5Eric Lichaj got another start for Nottingham Forest in their 3-0 win over Bolton. Lichaj had another 90-minute effort and Forest remain unbeaten in the English Championship.
If he keeps this type of form up, it will be hard for Jurgen Klinsmann to continue to ignore him for national team duty.
Tim Ream made the 18 but did not play for Bolton. Stuart Holden is recovering from injury.
Danny Williams continues to see action for Reading off the bench and came on as a 68th-minute substitute in their 3-3 draw with Watford.
Jonathan Spector and Will Packwood are still recovering from injury and played no part in Birmingham's 1-0 loss to Brighton.
Elsewhere in Europe
4 of 5Sacha Kljestan was one of the two continental goal scorers this weekend with Aron Johannsson being the other.
Kljestan, fittingly, scored in his 100th appearance for Anderlecht in their 3-0 win over Waasland-Beveren. Johannsson, only days after an impressive debut for the United States men's national team, scored a nifty chip in AZ Alkmaar's 2-1 win over Waalwijk. He came off in the 73rd minute.
It was reported this week, via Brian Sciaretta of the New York Times, that forward Terrence Boyd will be out three weeks with a shoulder injury, which puts him in doubt for the U.S.' September World Cup qualifiers.
Alejandro Bedoya made his debut for Nantes in their 2-1 loss to Lorient. Bedoya was a 52nd-minute substitute.
Conor O’Brien started and went the distance for Nordsjaelland in their 2-1 win over AaB.
Mix Diskerud and Rosenborg tied Valerenga, 0-0. Diskerud started and played 70 minutes.
Steve Clark started in goal for Honefoss in their 1-0 loss to Sandnes.
Michael Bradley and Roma open up Serie A competition next week.
Josh Gatt is injured and is recovering from surgery.
South of the Border
5 of 5Tijuana lost 2-1 to Monterrey, but 18-year-old American Paul Arriola was on the scoresheet again for Xolos. Arriola was an 85th-minute substitute for Joe Corona, who had started the match with fellow Americans Greg Garza and Edgar Castillo. Castillo went the distance while Garza was subbed off in the 81st minute.
Herculez Gomez is still recovering from injury.
Jose Torres and Tigres lost 3-0 to Santos Laguna. Torres went the distance.
DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco both started and played the full match for Puebla in their 4-2 win over Chivas.
Freddy Adu was not in the 18 for Bahia's 0-0 draw with Santos.
