2009 NFL Draft: Pick No. 11

Round One—Pick 11: DE, Aaron Maybin—Penn State University

I am not going to lie to you, I did not like this pick at first.

Thinking back on the moment he said Aaron Maybin though, I think I didn't like it because I expected it. Maybin is a Penn State product and the Bills love Posluszny.

Now pass rush was an obvious need for the Bills. Anyone and everyone will admit that. But a situational pass rusher at 11?

A guy that came to the combine at 245, who was just 220 two months ago! 245?

Really, how is he going to stand up to the top tackles in this league at that weight when they're pushing forward on a run play.

But then I saw his age, he just turned 21. You know what that means right?

245 is something he can increase, he's not at his peak yet! This opens up possibilities!

Aaron Maybin was drafted to be situational and I like it.

I like it a lot.

Maybin can play on both sides, which means the Bills can use him in even more ways. He can play standing up, you know that defense the Bills pulled out for the Monday night game against the Cowboys a few years ago? That defense is going to be even better with Maybin in it.

He has size 15 feet. With so much foot to push off of he has a stellar first step. He is fast, very fast for a DE. He has strength for a small guy, not great strength, but he is not weak by any means.

So what did the Bills get out of him?

They got a defensive end with a great first step, who is going to help immediately on passing downs.

They got an extremely young talent that they can mold into what they want. He's an extremely smart guy who loves that he's in Buffalo, and loves that he's in the NFL.

A guy that will put on weight, and will develop into an every down guy in the future.

I know it's early, and I know he'll never be replaced. But from what I've seen, and read.

The Bills got their new Bruce Smith the same year he's going into the hall!
