Arsenal Transfer News: Gunners Fans Must Support Arsene Wenger's Luis Suarez Bid

Nick AkermanJul 28, 2013

Arsenal fans have endured an awful lot of frustration this summer.

Finally equipped with a decent transfer kitty, the Emirates faithful have had to sit back and watch as one high-profile target overlooked the Emirates' appeal.

As confirmed by FIFA on its official website, Gonzalo Higuain's move to Napoli ended hopes of the Argentinian star playing in red and white, forcing Arsene Wenger to rethink his plans of acquisition.

The Frenchman is meticulously plotting to land Liverpool's Luis Suarez in what would be one of English football's most surprising switches ever. As outlined by The Daily Mirror's John Cross, Wenger is more than willing to bide his time in order to land the striker he recently bid £40,000,001 for.

"

We are ready to do quick deals but all the transfers do not depend only on us. But we are prepared to wait. It looks unlikely before the Emirates Cup.

We still have a strong squad but we are there on the market to try to strengthen our team. With or without additions we can be title challengers next season.

"

If the Arsenal boss is happy to wait, Gunners fans should trust him. Wenger has never spent a huge sum on individual players and his most expensive transfer remains last season's capture of Santi Cazorla, who signed for around £15 million.

As we've seen with David Moyes at Manchester United, securing a mega-money deal for any world-class player takes patience.

Wenger obviously has a certain style of player in mind. Suarez is a ferocious dribbler, extremely hard to knock off the ball and can tear through the opposition's defence with insane close control.

As reported by Who Scored?, last season's 23 goals and five assists in 33 Premier League appearances not only highlighted Suarez as one of the English league's top performers, it also pushed him into contention for competing with the world's best.

Overlooking his notorious bad behaviour and attitude for one moment, Suarez is exactly the type of player who would fit into Arsenal's lineup.

With players such as Cazorla, Theo Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta around him, the North London club would finally flaunt a spearhead that makes other teams tremble with fear.

His pace and determination to keep hold of the ball regularly drags defenders out of position, something that would release the pace of Arsenal's wings with great freedom.

The club would also have an individual star to compete with Tottenham's Gareth Bale.

Suarez—who recently made a 30-minute cameo in Liverpool's 3-0 preseason win over Thailand—needs to be playing Champions League football at this stage in his career. The 26-year-old striker may be a star performer at Anfield, but he has far more to offer on the world stage.

He can achieve this at Arsenal.

Despite the failure to land Higuain, Wenger is conducting business in the proper manner. His bid has forced Suarez into considering a move away, given Liverpool's bosses something concrete to consider and allowed Arsenal fans to dream of having one of the sport's most exciting forwards at their club.

While it is naturally frustrating to consider Wenger has failed to spend any of his newly acquired funds, the transfer window has a long way to roll just yet.

The 63-year-old manager has a responsibility to buy intelligently and with care, an achievement that often takes time.

Wenger has shown great ambition in trying to land Suarez and cannot be criticised for not stumping up the cash.

Whether he has to add another pound coin or £10 million more, as reported by The Guardian, the Arsenal faithful should recognise his step up in commitment to improving a Gunners side that is finally ready to compete for major silverware.
