The New Mercedes Benz Golf Cart Concept Takes Luxury to a Whole New Level

Dan CarsonJun 8, 2018

It doesn’t dispense Grey Poupon, but the new Mercedes-Benz golf cart concept features almost everything else you would ever want in a luxury vehicle.

Sketches for the “Vision Golf Cart” were unveiled during the British Open, and the futuristic images were spotted by Rick Chandler of Sports Grid. From the looks of it, Mercedes is designing a vehicle that would look more at home roving Mars than down a cart path.

The Vision was created by Mercedes-Benz's head of design, Gorden Wagener, with the help of golf fans, who submitted ideas to Mercedes regarding the amenities they would want in a state-of-the-art golf cart.

Judging by these sketches, I’d say Mercedes listened.

The cart is driven by a central joystick, allowing riders on either side of the cart to control its direction, cutting out the need for passengers to scoot over in order to drive.

Amenities include a revolving iPhone/iPad docking station, heating/cooling cup holders and a cooler/warmer refrigerator. Half the components of this vehicle are meant to either heat up or chill down your beverages, which is something no golfer will complain about.

Other features include an “air scarf” heater (if your neck gets chilly), a solar panel roof and a “Fore!” button someone will surely press in the middle of their buddy’s backswing.

Of course, almost all of the Vision’s components are touchscreen activated via a heads-up display on the inside of the vehicle’s windshield.

Impressed? This author is, although I cannot say I like it better than Bubba’s Hover.

Mercedes’ Vision Cart is fancier, but unless the final product comes with a jet engine and afterburners, it probably won’t be as fun to drive as a hovercraft.
