Rangers-Devils: New York Shows New Jersey How It's Done

Chris LiggioApr 9, 2008

Dear Readers,

In what would've been an amazing first playoff game at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey was in reality a dismal defeat at the hands of the New York Rangers. Coming into tonight's game everyone expected an intense battle of the ages between two competitive teams split by the Hudson River.

But, after tonight's game it was made clear who came into this game wanting it more. In what began as a fierce battle between two games hungry for the Cup turned into a one sided beat down that ended with a score of 4-1 in favor of the Rangers.

As expected Lundqvist and Brodeur performed at the top of their games and made it hard for both teams to convert on their shots. Scott Gomez showed his former team that he is ready to take them head on in this series and take his team to the next level in their quest for the Cup. Alongside Gomez's outstanding play tonight, Sean Avery, Brendan Shanahan and Henrik Lundqvist contributed key plays and great effort that added to the Rangers win.

Looking back on tonight's game, the Rangers can take this series if they show the dedication they had tonight and keep playing at the top of their game. Working together can and will bring them the success in the playoffs that they desire.

The Devils are still in this series, seeing it has only been one game, but they will need to revise their game plan and come into the next game playing harder, faster and stronger if they want to win this series and not be eliminated. Only time will tell who shall be the champion of this series between two well established teams. We are all well aware that both teams want the Stanley Cup in their hands at the end of the season. The Rangers and Devils are going to duke it out like never before in this series in hopes of advancing to the next round.

I am sure that hockey fans across the United States and Canada are keeping a close watch on this series, for the playoff picture will be altered in different ways based on who wins the series. As a Ranger fan I am hoping that my team comes out on top, but I will not rule out the Devils for they have just as many opportunities and great players as the Rangers do. The future holds great things for this year's playoffs and with it will come the defeat of great teams and the success of great teams as well.

We shall all be on the edge of our seats during the postseason until the very end when the Stanley Cup champions, whoever they maybe, raise the cup above their head symbolizing their great achievement.Ā
