Arsenal Transfer News: Stubbornness of Nicklas Bendtner Hurting Gunners

Ryan RudnanskyMay 31, 2018

Arsenal is attempting to do big things this summer.

Nicklas Bendtner isn't making it any easier.

Arsenal has been trying to sell the 25-year-old forward as the club looks to sign some big fish ahead of the 2013-14 Premier League campaign. There appeared to be a chance of dealing him to Eintracht Frankfurt, per ESPNFCbut the German side's chairman told his club's official website that Bendtner will not sign with them (via Sky Sports).

Bendtner had reportedly been willing to accept a deduction in salary from €4 million to €2.8 million previously, but it appears something got in the way of an official deal down the road.

You know, that something called stubbornness.

Bendtner needs to check himself. He's not the player Arsenal thought he could become and he's frankly not worth that much money right now. He scored zero goals in nine matches on loan with Juventus last season, and he hasn't scored a league goal for anyone since April 28, 2012. Yet, he's turning down a deal that would still make him the highest-paid player at Frankfurt.

I understand it's not easy to see your salary reduced, but, at this point, it's either Bendtner accepts his value and moves to another team or he sits on the bench. It frankly shouldn't require much thought for the Dane at this juncture.

Bendtner is not only holding up the Gunners and their lofty goals this summer, he's also holding up his career. He's 25 years old. He still has a shot at doing big things if he makes the most of a situation he has gotten himself into. Go to a team in another league for a while, get your confidence back and improve, then see where you are after that. He's not doing Arsenal or himself any favors at the moment and, frankly, it's getting a bit tiring.

According to ESPNFC, Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner said after the deal fell through, "We don't have any problems with Arsenal." That suggests that the club had problems with Bendtner and that a deal may have already been worked out between the two clubs before it broke down.

This is undoubtedly a tough time for Bendtner, but he needs to understand that he doesn't have a leg to stand on at this point. He needs to accept the situation so that both he and Arsenal can move on with their lives.
