Arsenal Transfer News: Arsene Wenger Must Act Swiftly to Acquire Gonzalo Higuain
It’s a new day at Emirates Stadium, but the story remains the same.
Despite months of promising to spend on top talent this summer, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has yet to make a big splash on the transfer market, even after rumors of an imminent deal to acquire Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain.
According to Jack Lang of the Daily Mirror, Arsenal may not have even made an offer for the Argentinian. He quotes Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as saying:

“We don't want Higuain to leave. What's more, no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table.”
That Perez wants to keep Higuain at Real Madrid comes as no surprise given his tremendous success with Los Blancos since joining the club. Despite Higuain’s blatant cries to leave, Real Madrid are in no hurry to sell him.
What does come as a shock—though it probably shouldn’t—is that Arsenal haven’t made an attempt at Higuain, despite rumours that the Emirates side have offered £23 million for the striker, per Sid Lowe of the Guardian.
After securing a top-four finish in the Premier League last term and a Champions League berth, Arsenal reportedly upped Wenger’s summer purse to roughly £70 million according to the Daily Mirror—a sum that led many to believe Wenger would finally loosen his grip on the club’s money to acquire some big talent.
But since that time, Arsenal have come away with nothing. The Gunners are in the middle of nearly every rumor involving a top target, but nothing has come of it.
If Wenger wants to prove to the club’s supporters that he is willing to make good on his promise and bring more talent to the Emirates, he’ll need to act quickly.
Real Madrid may not be keen on dealing Higuain, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t for sale. The striker has openly stated his desire to leave Real Madrid, as quoted by Lowe, and now is the time to make a move:
“No one has gifted me anything. I have had to fight for everything. I want to go somewhere where they really want me.”
Wenger can offer Higuain that situation; Arsenal supporters would be ecstatic to have a striker of his caliber. If the 25-year-old wants to go to a club that will welcome him with open arms, Arsenal need to act.
Additionally, Arsenal probably isn’t the only club sending out feelers regarding a Higuain move. Any number of clubs would love to have a finisher like Higuain, and with Perez’s comments, more suitors are likely to emerge, looking to head off Arsenal before they can make a serious offer.
There’s simply no reason for the Gunners to hesitate. If Wenger is to make good on his promise, now is the time to make something happen.
