Jed York: The Future of the San Francisco 49ers

For those fans that have missed former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and have been disenchanted with the team's image and performance over the past seven years, this is a common theme in 49er Land.

Most fans have expressed deep displeasure with how this organization unintentionally transitioned to the bottom of NFL in relevance, respect, and exposure. The team won only 89 games compared to 103 losses since 1997, compared to 17 years of 10 wins or more prior to 1998.

In 2008, the organization made another transition. John and Denise York finally made a move that could bring the 49ers back to the forefront of NFL importance once again by appointing their bright, charismatic, and charming son Jed to head the organization.

Towards the end of the season, when the organization fired Mike Nolan, Jed York was named Team President/Owner of the San Francisco 49ers. Jed reportedly keeps in constant contact with his favorite uncle Eddie DeBartolo Jr. for advice, guidance, and support on what it takes to be a successful owner in the NFL.

It was reported that Jed spoke to Eddie right when Mike Nolan was fired to obtain guidance on promoting Mike Singletary to head coach. Eddie did not tell him to hire Singletary, but he helped Jed use critical thinking and sound judgment to enable Jed to make the decision to hire Singletary, with the help of general manager Scot McCloughan.

Jed joined the organization after working as a financial analyst at Guggenheim Partners. Prior to his first job he had graduated with a degree in Finance and History from Notre Dame. In 2005, Jed joined the 49ers organization and worked his way from the ground up.

He started as an Assistant Equipment Manager and moved to other areas of the team operations to eventually become a Special Projects Manager. He then moved up by putting on different hats such as the Director of Strategic Planning, then on to Vice President of Strategic Planning, and now the President of the Team and part Owner.

Being involved in every area of the organization gave Jed a thorough understanding of how an NFL franchise operates. But what has been most impressive is his distinct passion for the 49ers.

He is the oldest son of John and Denise York and has been part of the glory days in the past, attending his first game in 1984. Jed is only 27, and some of the older 49er faithful are seeing very similar characteristics to his Uncle Eddie.

Jed is now the face of the 49ers' ownership and has gone to great lengths to get out to the media and answer difficult questions on the direction of the franchise and the new stadium that is being planned in Santa Clara.

His public speaking and charismatic demeanor have made a great and positive impression on 49er fans around the world in hopes of bringing this franchise back to the top of the NFL ranks.
