A ______ disgrace says Drogba as Barcelona moves on to face Man U

Shaun YoungMay 6, 2009

Those were the last words from Chelsea striker Didier Drogba after a 1-1 stunner against FC Barcelona. Referee Tom Ovrebo who in my opinion isn't the worst official in the world; but tonight's showing proved that he's a front-runner, by waving away four penalty appeals throughout the game, such as a shirt pull on Didier Drogba and two handballs from Gerard Pique and Samuel Eto'o. But the most questionable call came in the form of Abidal being sent off for challenging Nicolas Anelka.

In the 93rd minute (and for you non-soccer/football fans. There's 90 minutes in a game, then stoppage... or extra time if you will), Barcelona's Andres Iniesta knocked a hell of a shot past Petr Cech to win it for FCB. After the game was over, Chelsea's Michael Ballack received a yellow card for waving his arms and screaming at official Ovrebo that Barcelona's Gerard Pique had hit the ball with his hand; but the most unusual & possibly shocking moment was Didier Drogba having to be restrained by teammates while screaming at the ref. Drogba started down the tunnel, came back out & proceeded to yell, "A________ Disgrace. This was a _________ disgrace."Ā  I shouldn't say shocking as controversy seems to follow Drogba everywhere.

Ok. I'm a Chelsea fan. I'm honestly upset with the game. I teared up a little. This official in my biased opinion shouldn't even have a job right now. I honestly thought Ballack waving his arms and screaming at Ovrebo a few feet away from him was hilarious. I don't think there was any fix by UEFA officials at all. Chelsea just blew it.

Tonight's game showed... well I hate to use this cliche, but... the Thrill of Victory and the Agony of Defeat. Agony it was for Chelsea, as they all but had this match locked up. Say what you want about UEFA didn't want another All-England final, this was an amazing game, one that I'll never forget; as FC Barcelona moves on to face Manchester United in the UEFA cup finals three weeks away on May 27.
