Patriot Place: New England Fans' Newest Destination

 

Patriot Place is a retail concept that was thought up by Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

A very smart business man, Mr. Kraft saw a need and fulfilled it. The area surrounding Foxboro Stadium was a virtual waste land of parking lots 30 miles due south of Boston.

The only road to the stadium, Route 1, is notorious for having some of the worst traffic headaches of any facility in the country.

Not being about to change the road infrastructure, Kraft decided to change the culture. Why not have a place people can enjoy before and after the games, while the traffic files out?

Patriot Place is connected to the Patriots' Gillette Stadium and is open year round. Entertainment is plentiful as Patriot Place has an upscale movie theater, restaurants, bars, a hotel, some shopping, and a Patriot Hall of Fame.

The jewel of the complex is CBS Scene, a CBS television-themed restaurant that caters to the sports fan. There are three levels, outdoor deck seating that looks into Gillette Stadium, and a huge bar area with two video walls.

The food at CBS Scene is better than expected, especially for a themed restaurant. Other restaurants at Patriot place include Bar Louie, Tastings, Davio’s, Five Guy Burger, Red Robin, and Tavolino’s Pizza.

Patriot Place is a great concept, and I give Robert Kraft a lot of credit here. However, it does not have a great flow to it and almost awkwardly abuts into the stadium.

There is a plenty to do and eat here, but if you are looking for a shopping destination, this really isn’t the best place to go. Patriot Place is less than a year old, but there are still a lot of vacant store fronts (it’s a tough leasing market out there).

Patriot Place really serves it’s purpose well. It turned a useless eye-sore into a destination for fans.
