As we are fast approaching the midpoint of 2013, there are a number of WWE Superstars and Divas who deserve a big push in the company.
The Shield is a great example of a Superstar who rose from being a newcomer to a champion. Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose are not included in this list. This list is more about Superstars who have been misused in the past, but will now see a change in their status in the company.
Curtis Axel is at the very beginning of his huge push in WWE and should see his rise continue now that he is paired with Paul Heyman.
Who else deserves a big push as we enter the second half of 2013?
Jimmy and Jey Uso have spent the majority of their tenures in WWE as jobbers to the better tag teams of the company, but that may be coming to an end. In fact, their recent win over the Prime Time Players may be just the start of a winning streak that could lead to a tag team title match.
According to Wrestling News World, WWE is considering pushing the Usos into a scenario that will lead to a feud with Seth Rollins and their cousin Roman Reigns.
Chances are it wouldn’t lead to a title reign for the Usos, but you never know. Perhaps Reigns turns on the Shield and joins the Usos, as I have discussed. Or maybe the Usos finally receive the respect they deserve. They are the only legitimate old school tag team in the WWE today, but were never used the correct way.
This is not a joke. The Divas division is actually due for a push this year, but for a reason.
The Total Divas show that is set to debut in July on the E! Network has convinced WWE to book the Divas a little differently. Since the show is about the Divas in and out of the ring, the Funkadactyls, Bella Twins and Natalya have to be in action from now until the end of the show’s season on WWE TV.
The push of the division will depend slightly on the number of episodes Total Divas includes in its first season. If the show does well, WWE fans may actually see Divas on a more regular basis.
It’s interesting to note that neither the Divas champion, Kaitlyn, nor the No.1 contender, AJ, is scheduled as one of the prominent Divas on the E! Network show.
Johnny Curtis is one lucky guy after re-debuting as the heel ballroom dancing Fandango. After a win at WrestleMania 29 over Chris Jericho, Fandango has only been on the rise.
While I expected him to win the United States title over Kofi Kingston, it does look as though Fandango will claim his first piece of gold in the WWE soon enough.
At WWE Payback, Fandango will challenge Wade Barrett and the Miz in a triple-threat match for the Intercontinental title. Expect Fandango to walk away Sunday, June 16, with the midcard title around his waist.
Barrett and Miz have both been booked poorly as midcard champions as of late, but with Fandango as champion that could change.
Curtis Axel is another WWE Superstar who is due for a huge push after being repackaged recently. Now that he is a Paul Heyman guy, the expectation is that Axel will receive a huge push going forward. Although his wins recently have either been against Sin Cara or count-out victories over John Cena and Triple H, Axel should continue his winning ways.
Championships don’t seem to be in his immediate future, but a push will come anyway. The Shield and Fandango are both on the rise and will claim the midcard and tag team titles. It would be too soon to have Axel win a world title. Therefore, it is best for Axel to continue to defeat others on his path to success.
Big E Langston joined the main roster shortly after The Shield made the jump from NXT as well. While The Shield has already received a big push and championships, Langston is getting a slow build. Nonetheless, Langston has shown a great deal of potential.
He and Dolph Ziggler were unable to capture the tag titles from Team Hell No at WrestleMania 29. However, Ziggler is now World Heavyweight champion and AJ is the next Divas champion. It seems as though it’s only a matter of time until all three members of Team Ziggler have gold around their waists.
Damien Sandow may be the biggest surprise on this list, but I have my reasons. Sandow has been one of the most misused Superstars in recent history. He and Cody Rhodes were rising with Kane and Bryan in the tag team division, but were then demoted to jobbing to the stars.
However, WWE knows how good Sandow is on the mic and has been taking advantage of it. From singing parodies to Superstars’ entrances music to having his own segments, Sandow is quietly getting pushed.
There are a lot of young Superstars coming into WWE who may get in the way of a Sandow push, but there’s no question that he deserves one, and is due for a big push later this year.
With his weak-link storyline on every WWE fan’s mind, Daniel Bryan is certainly due for a huge push soon. At some point in the very near future, Bryan and Kane will break up their tag team and allow the former World Heavyweight champion to soar in singles competition again.
Bryan is showing signs of a character similar to the one we saw from him when he cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase in 2011. That was when Bryan’s beard starting growing at a rapid rate, and he was in need of anger management.
Either way, Bryan is due for another world title run later this year.
Who do you think is due for a huge push in the second half of 2013? What are your thoughts on my suggestions? Please share your thoughts in the comment section below.
