"Sam I Am Not:" The Dalembert Project Needs to be Terminated

Rob LangiMay 1, 2009

Sometimes in life, you have to take a situation and chalk it up as a loss. That time has come for the Philadelphia 76ers and their attempt to turn Samuel Dalembert into an NBA center.

I can give a simple explanation why. He just is not good enough. We have been waiting for him to hit his "potential' for the good part of the last five years.

Still waiting....

It is aggravating to watch him play the game. Defenders of him say he is a great shot blocker. As true as this may be, for every two or three blocks he has, Dalembert also adds a goal-tend, in which he then turns to the ref with his infamous confused/angry face.ย

You see Sam, if you block a shot once it is coming down towards the basket, or it already has hit the backboard or rim, it is a goaltend. Stop acting like your being cheated.

Secondly, have you ever heard a below-average player whine more about not being utilized the right way? This guy had the audacity to go to the front office around the trade deadline and ask to be traded.ย

In the words of the 76ers radio broadcaster, Tom McGuinness, "Are you kidding me?"

If I was Ed Stefanski and this guy walked into my office and asked to be traded, I would laugh in his face and tell the coach to just sit him on the bench.

First of all, Billy King, the former GM paid him way too much money and he is still owed over 20 million dollars. Secondly, with that price tag and lack of basketball knowledge, who in their right mind is going to inquire about him.

And if somebody does, I do not care what they are offering, make it happen.

To top it all off, as the 76ers were finishing up their embarrassment of a basketball game last night, where the Howard-less Magic beat them by 25 on their home court to end their season, Sammy "D" decides to slap Hedo Turgkulu in the face, and when confronted, Dalembert proceeds to hug and attempt to kiss his opponent.ย

What could possibly be going through his head at this point? You're being outplayed by a third-string center in Gorat, and you are trying to kiss your opponent and get in his head?ย

It is understandable how difficult it is to move his price tag, but if there is any way to do it, it is a necessity. The guy cannot play and he doesn't seem to care. Or he just doesn't realize it.

The other day Dalembert made a joke about if he would have thrown the elbow that Howard threw, he would be sent back to Haiti. Please Sam, do not let us stop you.
