This is not the best year for British striker Che Mills. In February, the fearsome muay thai machine was released from the UFC. Now he has missed weight for what was originally scheduled as a title fight, according to CageWarriors.com.
On Saturday night, Mills headlines Cage Warriors 55 against welterweight champion Cathal Pendred. However, with the failed attempt to make weight, the fight has been changed to a three-round, non-title matchup.
Mills originally weighed in at 171.2 pounds for the 170-pound affair. Given an extra two hours, the Ultimate Fighter vet couldn't complete the task, and will surrender 25 percent of his purse to Pendred.
After a 2-1 (1) run inside the Octagon, the Zuffa release of British striker Che Mills came on the heels of a loss against Matt Riddle, who grinded him out at UFC on Fuel TV 7. The loss was overturned into a No Contest after Riddle tested positive for marijuana.
Before the matchup with Riddle, Mills turned in a dominant performance over Duane Ludwig. That fight officially ended due to a knee injury suffered by Ludwig, but make no mistake, Mills had "Bang" in the pressure cooker.
Opponent Cathal Pendred, who once trained at Team AKA in San Jose, is 6-0-1 in his last seven appearances. A win over Mills would be the biggest of his career, and could earn him the Joe Silva phone call that he has been waiting for.
Cage Warriors 55 airs live on Saturday, June 1 from The Helix in Dublin, Ireland. Two fights from the preliminary card will air on the CWFC Facebook page, and the five-fight main card airs for free over at MMAJunkie.com.
