King Of The Ring: The Only Way It Will Mean Something

Adrian StaehleSenior Analyst IApril 30, 2009

What do Don Muraco, Harley Race, Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase, Tito Santana, Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Mabel, Steve Austin, Triple H, Ken Shamrock, Billy Gunn, Kurt Angle, Edge, Brock Lesnar, Booker T, and William Regal all have in common?

There have all been crowned King of the Ring.

This year King of the Ring will return and it most likely will be a inter-promotional tournament.

The WWE will hold the second consecutive tournament since 2001-2002.

Last year William Regal won King of the Ring, but all he won were a crown and a cape. King of the Ring hasn't really meant anything since 2002.

King of the Ring used to be one of the top five PPV's until 2006, when only the finals showed on Judgement Day in 2006.

I thought of only one way this touranment could mean something and be worth watching.

What do Owen Hart, Mable, Kurt Angle, and Brock Lesnar all have in common?

All got a World Title Shot at Summer Slam as a gift for being the King of the Ring.

The WWE can make it worth watching if they put mid-carders that deserve the push or a Cinderella or old vet looking for another shot to be in the tournament and give the King of the Ring the Championship match at Summer Slam or any other PPV.

It would be worth watching and would bring in good ratings if the matches are done well and the unexpected happens.

The WWE could make King of the ring relevant again by making the winner the No. 1 contender for the WWE or World Championship.

The WWE could build the storyline going towards Summer Slam like they did with The Rock and Brock Lesnar.
