The Mets just suffered a very hard loss today to their divisional foe the Florida Marlins. This was a very frustrating game, from David Wright striking out twice to J.J. Putz blowing the game, to their impotent offense, this game was just a complete and utter disaster.
Every time Met's ace Johan Santana takes the hill, the Mets have to go out their with the mindset that they will not lose when this man is on the rubber. I don't want to call them all must win games, but when the rest of the rotation is performing poorly, I EXPECT them put up a strong effort.
Johan didn't have his best stuff, surrendering two runs in the first inning, but managed his way through the ballgame putting the Mets in a position to win the game.
But of course, the typical Mets saga unfolded as the team found a way to choke away the game.
I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
NOTHING HAS CHANGED WITH THIS TEAM IN OVER THREE YEARS!
I feel like I have been watching the same pitiful game over and over.
We, as seasoned and salty Met fans, often wonder "how are they going to find a way to blow this one" because our team has given us no reason to believe that they will turn it around!
WHEN WILL THIS END???
The Met's have not stopped collapsing since 2007, and it's just seeming to get worse and worse.
What can they do to fix this problem?
Should they fire Jerry Manuel?
I don't think they should. Even though Manuel has been managing horribly as of late, it doesn't make much sense to get rid of him now and have three managers on the payroll.
Here are my solutions for the Mets to FINALLY Stop their Collapsing:
1) DAVID WRIGHT NEEDS TO MAN UP!
I know this sounds ridiculous, but David Wright may have to go if he can't turn it around. This guy is the third baseman version of Oliver Perez; A COMPLETE AND TOTAL HEADCASE! He is really pressing right now because he's trying to carry the whole team on his shoulders and trying to crank and eight run home run every at bat.
2) SOMEONE OTHER THAN JOHAN NEEDS TO DOMINATE!
I don't care who it is, Maine, Ollie, or Pelfrey, at least one of these guys needs to become a dominant stopper behind Santana. If this doesn't happen or if the Mets don't acquire another big arm, I see no way the Mets are in the post season.
3) THE BULLPEN.
Now I know they have been a lot better then the previous seasons, but after watching JJ Putz walk a couple of batters and give up two runs to blow the game, I'm worried that the bullpen may cost us a few games down the road. Even K-Rod scares the crap out of me when he pitches sometimes.
4) HIT WITH RUNNERS IN SCORING POSITION!
