Top Ten Most Underrated Players In The NBA
We have all heard about Kobe, LeBron, D-Wade, Steve Nash, Michael Jordan, Bird, Melo etc. What about the other players. Sure these guys score the points, but what about the other players on the court. I am talking about guys that might be famous, but are not looked at as a huge threat even if they score fifty points the night before. Lets see who made the list:
10. David Lee: A lot of you might have not even heard about this New York Knick. Well let me introduce you. This guy had the most double-doubles this year. Yep, more than Dwight Howard. Very few people heard of him and the ones who did might not even know a lot. He is one of the last players the opposing team thinks of. All this guy needs is a good team. The Empire State has proven to be a very bad host for the 25 year old.
9. Jason Terry: Now this is a tough one. Terry is considered one of the best Dallas players, but still there is not that much attention payed to him. People talk about him, but they never consider him a big player. He is the reigning Sixth Man of the Year and has proven he can score and be a big part of the team. Many times you will see defenders move away to defend guys like Kidd. Kidd is a great player, but when it comes to scoring, Terry wins that match. He has a great team and if he keeps going this 31 year old might be winning some bigger awards...
8. Andre Miller: This guy is inconsistent, I'll give you that. But so are many of the other great players. He is a pretty good passer and he can rush. This is the typical point guard MO now-a-days. He won't be winning any awards, but he is a definitely and threat and when you give him space, don't be surprised if he blows by you for a layup.
7. Nate Robinson: This little guy is good! If you don't know who I'm talking about well, let me explain. I'm talking about the midget that runs around with what he should be using as a medicine ball. Ring a bell? Well that's Nate Robinson. The little fellow won the dunk contest twice and is a great addition to the team. His can rush and shoot relatively well. This kid will always tell what is on his mind! The second Knick on this list, hmmm, well could it be, that the Knicks are considered a bad team? Give that a thought...
6. Shane Battier: This guy is not ultra impressive and his will not wow you. But he is steady, he can shoot and he can defend. He is not a star, but if taken lightly he could be the game changer. Unfortunately, he is taken lightly a little too often, and that has won Houston many games this season. He has great potential, that I personally don't think he knows how to develop.
5. Derrick Rose: This Rookie of the Year is often taken very lightly by his opposition. They talk about defending him, but somehow they never really, truly do. When they need to defend D-Wade, you can at least see that they try. Not so with Rose. He is one of the best point guards in the NBA, at least give him the honour of defence.
4. Rondo: When facing Boston, all you hear is: Contain KG, contain Allen, contain Pierce, stop House blah blah blah. What about the little point who lead the whole team in both assists and steals and probably something else I'm too lazy to look up. He is young and he's got talent. Teams are just starting to catch the idea of maybe actually trying to defend him. Well we shall see what will happen in the future, but I would not be surprised if he removed from this list by the middle of next season.
3. J.R. Smith: Never hesitates to take a shot. Maybe that's why he is not number one. If his shot selection improved, he would be number 1. He is a great player with great talent, but he is not at a level where he can shoot fade-away threes over a triple-team. Also this kid does not get taken seriously, he nailed eleven threes in a game this year. Part of it is being good, but another part is not being defended. Great player, great potential, up and coming team, this kid will be good.
2. Jason Richardson (Suns): He knows what he is doing! He scores and he...oh wait that's pretty much it. This is why he is not number 1, he needs to expand his game. He needs to realize his potential and try to become a better rebounder, defender, and shooter. He is a great young star who just needs a push to become a world class athlete.
1. Rudy Gay: With a name like that, I would not want to be on a world stage. However, that does not stop the young Rudy Gay. He odes everything for the Grizzlies. He rebounds, scores, defends, and sometimes even passes. He is young and full of potential. All he needs is a great team to play on...
Honorable Mentions:
O.J. Mayo: My pick for Rookie of the Year is already being double teamed, just needs to gain consistency.
Steve Nash: Great player and person, just a bit inconsistent.
Shaq: Would be on the list if he verified returning for next season.
Artest: Great player who shoots a little too much.
