It's possible that even the biggest golf fan hadn't heard of the No. 229-ranked player in the world, Chris Stroud. But after his incredible hole-in-one at The Players Championship, observers are taking notice.

Stroud managed to ace the difficult par-three No. 13 during Saturday's third round at TPC Sawgrass. According to Kyle Porter of CBS Sports, it was only the 11th hole-in-one on No. 13 in the course's illustrious history.

A hole-in-one of any kind is something to remember, but Stroud's was particularly astounding. The hole was located on the back-right portion of the green at the bottom of a slope. Stroud's ball hit the top of the slope and rolled perfectly down until it reached the bottom of the cup.

Stroud celebrated with his caddie and even received high-fives from playing partner Jason Bohn and his caddie. Stroud then jubilantly retrieved his ball from the hole and planted a big kiss on it.

The shot allowed him to shave two more strokes off his score and helped him finish at three-under par for the day. Stroud is surprisingly five-under par for the tournament and just six shots behind leader Henrik Stenson. Stroud may need a few more shots like that one to get into contention, but he has to be feeling great nonetheless.

The 31-year-old Texan has never won a PGA Tour tournament and has only played in a handful of majors, but if his hole-in-one at The Players Championship is any indication of things to come, we may be hearing a lot more from him in the future.
