Is WWE's Move of Crowning a New World Champion Every Month Successful?
From Cyber Sunday '08 until last night's Backlash, WWE has crowned a new World Champion(s) every month.
Let's review those moments.
Cyber Sunday '08
Batista defeated Chris Jericho to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
(Batista would then lose the Championship to Chris Jericho on the 800th episode of Raw in a Steel Cage match.)
Survivor Series '08
A returning John Cena defeated Chris Jericho to become the new World Heavyweight champion.
That same night, a returning Edge took the place of Jeff Hardy in the Triple Threat match, defeating Vladimir Kozlov and WWE champion Triple H to become the new WWE champion.
Jeff Hardy defeated Triple H and WWE champion Edge in a Triple Threat match to win his first WWE championship.
Royal Rumble '09
Edge again defeated Jeff Hardy in a No Disqualification match to become the new WWE champion.
No Way Out '09
Triple H defeated Vladimir Kozlov, Big Show, Jeff Hardy, the Undertaker, and WWE champion Edge in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber match to become the new WWE champion.
That same night, Edge attacked Kofi Kingston and forced himself in the Raw Elimination Chamber match.
As usual, Edge went on to defeat Mike Knox, Kane, Chris Jericho, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
John Cena defeated the Big Show and Edge in a Triple Threat match to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
Edge defeated John Cena in a Last Man Standing match to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.
That same night, Randy Orton and his Legacy defeated Batista, Shane McMahon, and Triple H in a six-man tag team match to become the new WWE champion as per the match stipulations.
Overall, from October 2008 to April 2009, there have been five different championship reigns of the World Heavyweight Championship and five different championship reigns of the WWE Championship, thus making 10 different World Championship reigns.
Edge has won the WWE and the World Heavyweight Championship four times from November 2008 to April 2009.
John Cena has won the World Heavyweight Championship twice from November 2008 to April 2009. Others have won the World Championships only once in these six months.
All the title reigns, either WWE or Heavyweight championship, have lasted from one pay-per-view till the next one.
The storylines of WWE have grown weak due to the inconsistently of the title reigns—even WrestleMania has become null and void.
On the other hand, ECW used Jack Swagger as a champion from early January until late October and crowned a new champion, Christian, this month.
For this, ECW has been improving a lot recently.
None of the WWE/World Champions could carry the house shows properly. The title reigns have lasted as long as a hiccup attack. To give a champion a decent run with a belt, you have to give him at least two or three months.
So readers, I've set up a poll; please give your views on whether you think that WWE's move of making a new World Champion every month is a successful one or not...
