Thursday’s edition of TNA’s Impact marks just four weeks until the June 2nd Slammiversary pay-per-view, and the final build to the big event will kick into high gear starting with this week’s action-packed episode.
Are you excited for the direction of Slammiversary thus far?
With serious action planned for this week’s episode and major storyline implications heading into TNA’s huge PPV event, Thursday’s Impact is a must-watch for every wrestling fan.
Where: BancorpSouth Arena, Tupelo, Miss.
When: Thursday, May 9 at 8 p.m. ET
Watch: Spike TV
Sting’s Building Another Team
Every time No. 1 contender Sting makes a triumphant return to the Impact broadcast, his immediate plan is to form a tag team of varying sizes to vanquish the Aces & Eights from the company. While it hasn’t worked yet, the hope now is that Sting, Kurt Angle and a mystery opponent will be able to do some serious damage to the gang.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Who is Sting’s Mystery Teammate?
There will be plenty of willing participants to step in the ring on Sting’s behalf, but the right choice for this match is Matt Morgan. After taking Sting to his limit in last week’s main event and proving himself a worthy adversary, the face turn for Morgan should culminate by joining forces with the good guys to defeat the Aces & Eights.
Even Bully Ray is talking about who the last member of Team Sting will be:
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 WrestleMania 13 Matches
Just as Bret Hart and Stone Cold Steve Austin put on an excellent show at WrestleMania 13 that ended with the challenger passing out, Morgan and Sting recreated a similar moment on last week’s Impact. While it was on a much smaller scale, this is the proper booking for a face turn in the main event. Let’s give Morgan a chance.
Tag Team Madness
As the main-event scene continues to take shape, the most underrated aspect of each week’s Impact is the interactions between Bad Influence and the team of Austin Aries and Bobby Roode. With a No. 1 contender’s match scheduled between these two teams, the excitement over who will challenge for the titles is through the roof.
Question on Everybody's Mind: Why Include Chavo and Hernandez?
The banter between Aries and Roode and Bad Influence has been amazing, but every time the action is just starting to heat up, the tag team champions Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez hit the ring and kill the mood. The tag team title scene should consist of just two tag teams in an extended feud (neither of those tag teams would include Hernandez).
Speaking about useless additions, James Storm is the referee for this match, but Christopher Daniels doesn't believe that should be a problem:
Hype Meter: 4 out of 5 Three-Way Tag Team Championship Matches
The hope is that Thursday’s match ends in a non-finish and this title match at Slammiversary eventually morphs into a three-way bout. That’s when you have Bad Influence win the titles, defeat Chavo and Hernandez in a rematch (thus vanquishing them from the title scene) and feud exclusively with the tweener team of Roode and Aries. That would be an extended program wrestling fans would love to see.
