Jose Mourinho Hints at Where He Wants to Coach—England?—Is Cut Off by ITV

Adam HirshfieldJun 8, 2018

Following Real Madrid's aggregate loss to Borussia Dortmund at theย Bernabeuย on Tuesday, there was one question on everyone's mind: Was this the end of Jose Mourinho at Madrid?ย

Sure, there are subplots looking ahead to the Champions League final on May 25. But in terms of the offseason coaching carousel, there's no bigger name set to be hopping on than Mourinho.

ITV's Gabriel Clarke had the interview for which all the journalists present were clamoring: a one-on-one with the self-described Special One.

After delving into some basic "if only" postgame chitchat about Madrid's play and their tough task of fighting back from a 4-1 first-leg deficit, Clarke finally got down to the business of asking about the manager's future with Los Galacticos.

"Maybe next season with Real?" he asked, getting the ball rolling.

"Maybe not," replied the fashionable Portuguese.

"Where?"

"I don't know," Mourinho began, "but I want to be where people love me to beโ€”" before Clarke cut in to bring an abrupt and ill-advised end to the segment.

"We'll take that [answer] as 'England.' I've got to go."

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

Clarke assumes Mourinho is referring to England as a place where he'd be lovedโ€”possibly Chelsea, as has been rumoured for some time (per The Guardian)โ€”but he won't let the man finish what he's saying?

Presumably, Clarke's producer was screaming in his earpiece that he had to finish.ย

But how do you not let one of the biggest names in world football finish his sentence?

There have been rumours circling for months that this season could well be the end for the 50-year-old in Madrid (per The Guardian).

Could Chelsea be his intended destination? Or perhaps a ton of money from Manchester City would sweeten the deal? What about Paris Saint-Germain with its infusion of capital and the additions of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Beckham?

We have no idea.

Whatever the case, despite Real's gutsy performance on Tuesday, Mourinho's tone seems to suggest that he's on his way out.

But where to?

Thanks to ITV, we can only guess.
