The Saints Are On The Clock: Pick 14

This is my first football article, and I hope you enjoy.

The Saints have the 14th pick in the draft and have a few options to pick from. I'm not going to say who I want them to pick but who they should pick that considers their needs.

Outside linebacker, free safety, and running back are their needs, and there could be a Buckeye or Bulldog on the Saints' roster coming into the 2009 season.

Malcom Jenkins is the name that is going around as the pick for the New Orleans Saints with the 14th overall pick.

Some other names are James Laurinitis, Chris Wells, and Knowshon Moreno.

I could see James being drafted because of the need at outside linebacker, but I just can't see them taking a risk with Laurinitis.

Wells and Moreno are being talked about but taking a running back with a first round pick could be risky to.

A wild card for the Saints would have to be Vontae Davis, and the Saints could wait for someone that could trade up and could get a second round pick and draft an outside linebacker in the second round.

If this does happen, the New Orleans Saints would draft Clay Matthews because there are some teams that have needs and they could trade back only with someone that has one of the first few picks in the second round in the draft.

Another person in the second round could be Paul Kruger, and I think he is a strong good outside linebacker and could be a perfect fit for the Saints' defense.

The Saints could look for a running back at their next pick if they don't trade, or even if they do, in the fourth round. A name that comes to mind is Glenn Coffee. He is a strong minded and good running back. You know he is fast because most of all running back's in the SEC are.

The seventh round pick is more like a first round pick for the Saints, and this will be the key to the draft for New Orleans, as they look for the fourth straight gem in the seventh round.

Who I see going to the Saints in the last round is Graham Harrell. You could think I'm crazy about this, but I think Harrell could be another gem for the New Orleans Saints, who can build Harrell for the future.

So for the first round, I see two options: select Malcolm Jenkins with the 14th pick, or trade back and pick up a second round pick.

Rate it. Let me know your feedback; tell me what you think.
